A friend of mine is looking to book this fall and is considering a moderate. She asked me if it is worth it to stay at a moderate or if she should just move offsite.

I know lots on here will say yes but just wondering if you could provide some feedback for me to tell her. Thanks

She is looking at POR or CBR and has two kids who are 6 and 4.

She wants to do mid day breaks and I told her offsite wouldn't be worth it to do breaks, is it hard to do breaks from moderates as well?

Thanks :)

We've done both onsite and offsite and I can tell your friend that getting to our Windsor Hills house via rental car was faster than getting back to a Disney resort via bus (most of the time).

A couple of things to remember... 1) budget for a rental car and park parking (though you only pay parking once per day, so if they hop, they don't have to pay again). 2)This is the Disney Resorts board, you're going to get answers very skewed toward the Disney resort option. Try this question on the Orlando board and you'll get more varied answers.

It all comes down to what they value most from a vacation. Do they want separate sleeping spaces? A kitchen? Or being in the Disney "bubble"?

Totally agree with the pp about it depending on what she wants, Disney bubble or extra room. My family and I have done both off and on site. the first 4 years we were off site and the last 6 were on Disney property. We would never go back to off site. For one thing even though we always planned on going back after a midday rest when off site we never did get back. it was close but we were always tired and the kids would always decide to stay swimming at the condo pool. It was nice but not very Disney. Once we stayed on property we totally understood the fun of the Disney bubble. For us every worry or stress falls away in that bubble and when you step out your door your surrounded by fun. Obviously on a Disney forum you are going to find Disney lovers that will be biased about Disney, but in my opinion there is a reason they are biased. Disney is just fun, and yes a magical place to be. Everything is taken care of for you. your food is ready when you want it, your room is cleaned everyday when you get back, and there are fun things to do everywhere you turn. In my opinion you can't beat it!

We stayed at POR in AB for one night before our stay at VWL last January. We thought it was really nice and would stay there again (but just the two of us and not with our son - not enough room in the beds for the two of us - we like our space). We like the food court there, the pools are nice and the transportation was fine.

When ours were that age, I preferred an offsite condo if it's a week long trip or more. So nice to have our own kitchen. So nice to have separate bedrooms and a great common area as DS when he was four was still taking a two hour nap, so we could be in the common area of the condo or out on the balcony. // Unless you are at the Contemporary, Poly, etc. really close to the MK, I really didn't see much of a difference in time getting to the parks between on and offsite (your own car will be faster and more flexible than Disney buses). A moderate will be close in price to an offsite condo (probably a little more expensive). For us too free dining was not really that appealing because we don't like to have to eat every meal out, especially if we are talking a full week trip. // Now if you don't have a car, that's another story. I personally would not do off site without a car.

I have stayed on site and the bubble is wonderfull the entire stay is vacation no stress!! yes maybe its slightly more money but not having to drive is a such a break for me!! as far as a moderate I love port Orleans!! queen beds and the pools have small but fun slides, bikes and you can take a boat to downtown and epcot! its wonderfull and I compared prices from off property and the cost was pretty much the same! when you consider parking and gas and also if the hotel charges a parking or service fees which I found a lot in Orlando area do!
