Question for experienced stitchers

I have found a project that I would like to attempt but it is cross stitched on linen instead of aida. How different or more difficult is it to do the stitching on linen? I've only done a couple of projects so far and both of them were on the aida fabric.

Hi Amanda,

I've stitched both on Aida and Linen. Linen is really nice, but it can get a little expensive and can be tricky.

I prefer a combination of both - Lugana or Joblean. They have the "softness" of linen, but the "all one size thread" of Aida. In other words, if you look at Aida, you'll see that each thread is the same width, but with linen, the threads get thick and thin along the strand which can be tricky to count.

I'm not exactly sure of the difference between Lugana and Joblean, I think Joblean has more of a "sheen" to it.

Lugana and Joblean give your piece a more polished look then Aida (IMHO).

What design are you stitching?

Great, thanks! I'm guessing that these can be done on the fabrics you mentioned rather than regular linen?

I didn't realize there was so much to this craft when I started.....

well if you dont feel confident with linnen the same project
can be done on aida fabric

Last year I stitched the "Lady of the Flag" by Mirabilia, I chose to complete the design on aida as I always have trouble with linen being to slippery when I have it in my hoop or frame.

I really enjoyed stitching the design though it really is beautiful.
