Question for Current DVC Owners

I took the SSR tour last Friday and was very impressed. :thumbsup2 I think the resort is beautiful but I was even more so impressed by the people/atmosphere. I felt like I was actually on VACATION there. It was so relaxing and everything seemed so much more laid back. People were casually walking around and not running :moped: trying to make it to the bus stop, I heard laugther and happiness instead of grumpy overly tired people. Have you noticed a different approach/feel since you have purchased DVC?

When we took the tour (and purchased) in October, DW and I noticed the same thing. It felt like FW does (or did to me when I was a kid). People acted like they were on vacation instead of some commando mission. It really was relaxing. Many DVC owners make multiple trips a year, or long vacations every other year in larger accommodations. I think that may make for a more relaxed, less harried vacation.

I don't think I can put these feelings into words but there has been an overwhelming change in the way we view our vacations since becoming DVC members. There is a "magical" transformation that occurs weeks before we arrive and lasts for weeks after we return home. Memories are made, but even more there is a sharing of time and experiences that can not always be expressed.

We love owning DVC! Everything is more relaxed and I think it's because you know you'll be back! We used to try to do everything but now we can stroll leisurely through the parks or sleep in. It really lets you see a differnt side of Disney. Best thing we ever did!
I sent you a PM too!
Best Wishes!

The easiest way for me to summarize it would be to point out that when you know your next Disney vacation is just a few short months away, you don't feel compelled to try to fit EVERYTHING into your trip. I have this mental list of dozens of attractions, experiences (things like behind the scenes tours, parasailing, etc.) and even restaurants that I have never done but want to try someday at WDW. But rather than try to cram as many as possible into a week's vacation, instead I try to hit just a few new ones each trip. Between those experiences that are new to me and the new rides and attractions constantly opening (this coming trip there will be at least 3 new attractions open since my last trip in May), it always has a new feel to it.

Once you become a DVC member, everything changes. There's no longer any need to rush to see all the attractions in every park. There's no longer the urgent and insane desire to maximize every second of your vacation ALL DAY LONG EVERY DAY until your exhausted. There's no longer ANY reason to 1) wait on long lines if you don't want to 2) rush anywhere because you don't know if when you'll have another opportunity or 3) gobble your food down like an animal to SQUEEZE more time out of your day.

WHY? it's simple. Because now the "once in a lifetime" experience of Disney will come to you again & again for many years to come!

You can enjoy your vacation now - you can relax at the pool any time you want. You have more than enough time to see everything and anything whenever you feel like it. Now you can actually BASK in all the magic and wonder of Disney - and you can do it in style with the quality of Disney surrounding you! It's fantastic and amazing and DVC is easily one of the smartest and best decisions I've ever made. I think you'll easy find thousand of other DVC members who agree.

Maybe I'll be saying "Welcome Home" to you some day. Good luck with your decision. Just be prepared that once you buy in you're probably going to want more!

Best wishes,
Dave

Yes, and I think that is one of the best things about DVC ownership. We are no longer on a mission to cram as many "rides" as we can into a day. We know we're going at least twice a year, so we can move at a slower pace and actually enjoy ourselves.

For us, the time spent with DD4-going-on-24 and I in the pool while Mommy naps are among the highlights of every trip -- as are some of the nice dinners we schedule.

That slowing down is one of the biggest benefits of DVC ownership and something I encourage every new owner to do.

As others have said, it is definitely more relaxing. Just knowing that you will be back soon gives you the state of mind to walk around and as JimMia said, "Not cram every ride in." You will enjoy the resort more, the pool more, and the parks much more.

Before buying into DVC, our vacations were more about "doing WDW". Now, WDW is the place we go to RELAX :thumbsup2!

Our vacations are different because we have Annual Passes. I see no difference in guest behavior between DVC resorts and other WDW resorts.

1st we love SSR

But we still go non-stop. The difference is just like you stated we don't rush anymore and DW stays around the resort more and sleeps in way more now that we own DVC.

you no longer feel you have to do it all. you been there done that just relax and do what you like.

I think everyone has posted exactly my feelings. I now can't wait for my next trip, and yet we are so relaxed now. We know we'll be back. The only stress is stretching the points to go as far as possible.

Definitely. In our recent vacations we might go to the parks for a couple of hours, but never an all day marathon.

The relaxed atmosphere is one of the reasons I prefer SSR and OKW as they are more DVC than not. Most everyone there seems to be in the same frame of mind. :sunny:

Where in Texas?

Yes, visiting frequently allows us to slow down a lot. This laid back approach is one of the reasons we love OKW so much. We tend to spend more resort days since becoming members and it really changed our whole perspective of WDW.

Yes.

We are no longer in a hurry to try to do everything at WDW because we know there will be a "next trip".

We don't regret our purchase at all.

Without DVC, a trip to WDW was very much about the parks. There was always the feeling that we needed to make the most of every single moment and dollar spent. Vacations were wonderful - but I often felt like I needed a vaction to recover from vacation!

With DVC, trips to WDW have stopped being all about the parks. The focus is now on spending time together as a family. Disney has just become the way our family spends time together - but vacation is about the time we are spending not as focused on making sure we ride everything while we are there. It's become about the journey, not about the destination. I truly feel incredibly blessed to be a member of DVC.
