Question for cruisers

I know there are some cruisers on this board (yes, you know who you are even if I can't remember ) plus we've got our own moderator-slash-travel-agent (yes, we all know who you are ) - so I'm hoping someone can answer this question...

We're doing the DCL Western cruise in September, and I'm wondering what kind of documentation we need for the trip. We all have passports (obtained in the aftermath of 9/11) but will we need any additional documentation, particularly for the stop in Cozumel? I believe Mexico requires tourist cards for Canadians - is it different if you arrive by ship, or will there be any additional forms we'll need to fill out before we go?

Mike: Any documentation other than your passport that you require will be provided in your cruise documents. There may be a Mexican tourist card that needs to be filled out. Make sure that you fill out everything BEFORE you get to the pier to avoid holding up the line when you board. As an aside, it is great that you have passports even though technically you don't need them at this point. Some of the cruiselines (Norwegian, Carnival and Royal Caribbean) have not allowed people to board as they did not have proper ID and I am sure that all of the cruise lines will follow this zero tolerance policy. A passport is always your best form of identification when traveling outside of Canada and there may come a time when cruise lines require it.

PoohBWW check out the Cruise thread 'cause if I'm
not mistaken, DCL has changed there rules regarding travel docks. Canadians are required to have a valid passport for each individual including children unless they were put on a parent's passport prior to December 11, 2001.

I would definately find out 'cause my TA had me sign a waiver saying that I understand that I must
have all the proper documentation.

Regarding Mexico, shouldn't DCL send any VISA required for the different ports?

Hi, you should have some photo ID also. Because Disney Cruise take your passport when you check in, and you will need these photo ID in order to leave the ship at the port of call.

Scratch42: I called DCL and was told that Canadians still need just a birth certificate (not a copy) and valid photo ID. Perhaps like other Disney CM's they are giving out conflicting info, but as I stated earlier, a passport is the best form of ID no matter where you are travelling.

I e-mailed DCL Guest Services and got the same reply. I wish Disney would have one answer!

I'll just add their reply to the book I carry for identification!

When I cruised DCL in 1998, we had both our passports and birth certificates. At check in we expressd concern to the CM about handing over our passports since we planned on getting off the ship in Nassau and did not want to be without them. She said it was no problem to just leave our birth certificates and a drivers license. No issue at all. I was hoping to do the same in September when I go again but obviously times have changed and they may be more strict. Of course I'll hand over my passport if that rule has changed, but my BC and DL would be my first choice.

I plan on bringing my passport and birth certificate just in case.
