I am thinking of going to a character audition in the next few months. I only want to work like 2 days a week. DH thinks that working at WDW will ruin the magic. We go to the parks almost every weekend and so far the magic is still there. Does working at the parks, getting to see the behind the scenes and knowing all the Disney politics ruin the magic of it all? I would be working there not for money (because what I make will have to go to daycare) but for the fun and experience, but if that means that I won't want to visit on the weekends, then it's not worth it to me or my children. Thanks for any info.

I don't work there, but magic is what you make it I think! In any job if you let some of the junk people say cloud your vision you will hate being there. If you become a character you will be making magic for tons of kids and adults and if you just focus on how you impact the life of a kid and ignore the pot stirrers you will be fine in my opinion.

It's really what you make of it. It will most definately change your perspective on WDW, but that doesn't neccessarily mean it will ruin the magic- only change it.

I'm a character performer myself, and so far, I love it. There really is nothing like it. You get to actually be the one to create the magic that you love to receive so much. When you see that little child run into your arms with an ear to ear grin and give you a huge hug, you just melt!

You get used to seeing characters backstage in a way you don't usually see them, but when I go out into the parks, I forget about the performer and see the character, even after over a year of working there. Also, it can be great fun to have character performers who actually know you. You'll have a character run up to you all excited to see you, and then you go nuts trying to figure out how they know you!

For many people, when they work at Disney all the time, they lose desire to play there anymore. I'm not that way though. There may be times when I want a break, but I always come back. I love the parks, and the freedom of free admission year round means that you can pop in just for a few hrs and leave if you so choose. You no longer feel rushed to experience as much as you can. It's wonderful.

Angiebelle, I noticed in your reply you mentioned you are a character performer now. What park are you in and what is your job?

For me it's not 'ruined' at all. After all, I am in "Africa" all day :p ;) ...the rest of the parks still hold the same magic and wonder for me as always ::yes:: :)

Character performers are global which means I can be scheduled in any park and any resort, but I end up at MK more than anywhere else.

I've become very good friends ;) with Chip, Dale, Suzy, Perla, Gideon, Mr. Penguin, and King Louie.

Oh, how neat that would be, AB, if YOU were able to 'introduce' me to some of your good friends while I am there at end of June. Chip n' Dale are just the best.

I think it is more fun because you know little secrets and special things about places that make it even better or that you might have missed. It's fun to know how to make the magic and then get to watch what others do to keep it going. I still get the urge to go back and miss Disney a lot which means that the magic really isn't gone.

Have fun and good luck.

Well I must say...MY dad told me time and tiem again before i left for the WDWCP in 2001 that I would regret going to WDW and it would ruin the magic for me.

However I loved every minute of it. I will even go so far as to say my love for WDW grew as a result of my time as a CM

I think its all in how you approach the work....Hope this helps.

I think it will lose the magic about it. When I was younger I got jobs at places I liked to go. EVERY SINGLE PLACE I've ever worked at I don't seem to enjoy as much as I did before I worked there. Even though I think WDW would be a real fun place to work at, I'm not taking the chance because I love it there so much and don't ever want the "magic" to not be there anymore!
