Question for Beverly Lynn or anyone else who can help...

First of all I want to say thank you to all of you who have helped me and so many other people out on this board.

My question is.... We are flying out of Bradley/Hartford in late November with a change of planes in Atlanta. Our lay over is only 45 minutes. This short of a lay over had me a little nervous to begin with because I have heard how large Atlanta airport is. Do you think that with the new security measures we will make the connection? Of course to complicate the situation my husband insists on flying in the back of the plane. Why? I don't know. But there is no talking him out of it.

So, do you think that this is possible or should I look into changing to a different flight? If you need any more detailed info. let me know and I will pm you. Thanks.

I have to ask his reasoning for flying in the back of the plane.

you should make the connection. you won't have to go thru the security measures again during your connection. you will arrive into the airside terminal which means you are arriving into the area for which you have already passed the security checkpoints.
I have had so many people talling me that they want to sit in the back of the plane incase it goes down. I have to ask why? if the plane goes down the whole thing goes down the tail end does not stay up flying. and does he know where the fuselage is on the aircraft? sitting in the rear is not safer. neither is first class. Tell him exit row is the best place.

Thank you Beverly Lynn. I feel a better now. As far as my husband wanting to fly in the back there is no explaining to him. I did get a big chuckle out of your answer though and have spent the last 10 minutes laughing at him. Thank you for bringing a smile to our faces.

A few years ago some show like 20/20 or 60 Minutes said that in crash landings, most of the people who escaped were in the back of the plane. I distinctly remember watching this show, but I don't remember how the came to this conclusion (what crashes they studied, etc.)! But this obviously didn't apply to bombings or flying straight into the ground.
Personally, I always grab the exit row whenever it's available.

And...

It was on the news this week that the "black boxes" are always in the tail section, because in most crashes, the tail section is, for whatever reason, intact, and that gives investigators the best chance of recovering the boxes.
Maybe your DH is onto something

I think that when they say the tail section is intact, they mean the very back part of it. In some planes the restrooms are back there if I'm not mistaken.

Every time I've flown through Atlanta, the gate for my connecting flight is all the way on the other side of the airport and we land late. I would ask the airline greeter where your connecting flight is immediately and head right over there. They usually announce which gates connecting flights are at before you land but I can't always understand what they are saying real clearly. Just move quickly (I don't mean run!) and you should be OK.

Actually I hate to say this, but I think connecting will actually be a little easier. Part of the congestion in the airports is people dropping off and picking up other passangers. During the Gulf War when only ticketed passangers were allowed in the concourses things were actually a lot less congested.

I smiled too . FWIW, you and you hubby can have the back of the plane! I hate it back there ... it's way too loud, you board first or risk not having any overhead space and you're the last ones off. Give me the front of the plane everytime!

I wish there were a lot more people who prefer the back of the plane. I hate it back there, too - for all the reasons you listed PLUS the restrooms are back there. They STINK and there is a constant stream of traffic in the aisles bumping my seat.
