Question for Backgammon players

Sorry if the answer to this is obvious. I'm just learning and haven't been able to find a definitive answer.

Can you hit a checker out of your opponents home board? Like if you're re-entering on a 3 and there is only one checker there?

Any single chip that is on the board can be sent to the center. If you are in the center and roll a 3 and that spot has a single chip on it then you put your chip there and send their chip to the center.
