When you are dieting on Atkins, do you "feel" light-headed and woozy? I tried it back in February- I did lose 6 pounds the first week- but at the end of my second week (and I was eating right at 20 carbs a day) I could not shake a weird feeling. I took multivitamins daily. I naturally have low everything, my blood pressure is 90/60 regardless of weight, temperature is 96.6, blood sugar is usually low when I go for yearly check-ups, cholesterol is in the 120's- the only not low thing is my weight ;) So I wonder if I should just stay away from this plan or if it would get better if I went past the 2 week mark. I'm slimfasting this month and doing great and thought of jumping to Atkins, then I was told to gradually go to Atkins since SF is so high in carbs- and it started me thinking if Atkins is really good for me- I know SF isn't that great but it's getting the weight and it seems to shrink my stomach when I stick to it for a few weeks- meaning I don't feel as hungry. Hopefully I can just monitor my portions and eat everything in moderation after I go off the SF- I've just heard such great results with Atkins I thought I'd try it again.
Any experiences?
Thanks!
Tara

Atkins isn't for everyone. If you aren't religious about drinking enough water you can get dehydrated which can cause you to feel light headed or woozy.

I had none of that happen to me but I drink lot's of water and retain a lot of fluid. Didn't get dehydrated.

My husband felt queasy and headachey to first 3-4 days and then he started feeling terrific.

I don't know if Atkins is right for you or not. If you have a plan that works that is all that is important. But Atkins is healthy for youit has made my husband feel so much better and controls his diabetes. He actually has pink in his face now, no more all gray face for him.

Tara, just an odd thought here: has your doctor ever tested your thyroid levels? Your low everything except weight could indicate an underactive thyroid, which slows your metabolism. If that's the case, it's easily treated, and you'd feel tons better and be better able to shed the extra pounds when it's back in balance.

Not trying to dispense medical advice, but just wondering...

OMG I have been having those feelings and never attributed it to this way of eating! But the feelings have only been lately --- so maybe they will go away after I get back on track again.

I actually got so dizzy while driving the other week that I ended up with a panic attack (so unlike me) and had to call my DH to pick me up. I haven't driven outside of my comfort zone area since then. I did visit my Gyno on wednesday and she suggested lowering my BC pills to one with less estrogen. We are now giving that a try to see how I feel.

I don't drink enough water --- so thanks for the heads up on that Katholyn -- I'll give that a try.

Good luck Tara! I know I've suggested it before --- but if the 'shake' thing is working for you but you are concerned about getting too much sugar, maybe you want to try to switch one shake a day to Atkins brand and keep one slimfast. Try it for a week and see if it works for you.
:D

I did have a thorough blood panel done when hubby and I signed up for life insurance- I have those results- would they check for thyroid? It's something to consider- I'm one of those who makes a trip to the gyno every 2 years it seems (never can remember to go!) and have never been sick in 10 years outside of having 3 babies- other than common cold stuff. I probably need to see if my gyno can fit me in- or would I need an internist for thyroid check? Either way with me sticking to and deciding to lose weight for good I think it's a good idea to have a check in with a doctor. Thanks!
Tara
