Upstairs in the GV at OKW, is there a sort of open loft area like there is at SSR? I remember when we toured SSR before buying, dh and I were thinking "this loft up here would be a good spot for kids to sleep." Is the layout at OKW pretty much the same?

On the same line ... we're going to book the GV at SSR, but at the 7 month window try to switch it to OKW. What are the chances that it'll be available??

No loft like area in GV at OKW. There 2 definite bedrooms on 2nd floor w/ open walkway between them, overlooking the living room area. I would not want kids to sleep there. There is so much room in these villas--you'll love it!

What time of year are you trying for? Chances are kind of slim to begin with being that the points are lower at OKW and I think there are only 7 GV's throughout the entire resort if I remember correctly. If you're trying for a slower time of year you may have a chance...if you're trying for Oct. - Dec. I'd say not so much.

OKW GV's are awesome though! Stayed in one once and would love to do it again sometime;)

OKW has (I think ) 27 GVs, not 7 (That's BWV). The "loft" area at OKW is really just a bridge between the two upstairs bedrooms. There is a small bench along one of the rails, and yes, it might be possible for a child to sleep there, but I wouldn't reccomend it. There us a very nice pull out queen bed in the living room down stairs and also a love seat that would be very apropriate for a small child.

As for switching to an OKW GV at the 7 month window, it really depends on the time of year. In January, maybe, but most other times, no.

I just wanted to add that the laundry room off the kitchen in the OKW GV is HUGE and might actually make a good small child bedroom!

Duh...Thanks diane  I knew there was a 7 in the number ...but wow was I way off :rolleyes1 That still isn't a very big # though for OKW...still depends on time of year you'll be trying for ;)

The open area between the 2 BRs upstairs is a hallway more than a loft. Not a place I'd probably have kids sleep. There is a ton of room in an OKW GV. The GV sleeps 12, but if you have kids that don't like to, or shouldn't, share beds, bring a bunch of sleeping bags and have them sack out on the floor. God knows, ther's a lot of floor space!

Last October, we had one 9 year old who didn't care to share a bed. We put her on the sofa cushions in the laundry room, and she thought she was special having her own room!

Thanks everyone! It sounds like I may have a chance... but I've already got the GV booked at SSR so at least we will GO! We're planning to bring the inlaws along ... FIL and his wife in one br upstairs, BIL and wife + 2 kids in another BR upstairs, and our family (me, dh, +3 kids) downstairs in the master suite. It's the only possible way I would share with the inlaws ... having them on a separate floor, with their own TVs and bathrooms up there! :rotfl2:

Depending on the ages of your kids, I would not hesitate to use the living room for sleeping. The new pull outs are very comfy and there are no bars under the mattress.

Let's see ... by then they'll be 6, 5, and 2. I think we can probably still convince the 2 yr old to use the pack n play :scratchin: and then the other 2 can sleep on the pullout. They LOVED doing that in our overnights on the way to HHI last year. They called it "the secret couch". That would also be further reason to banish the inlaws upstairs when the kids go to bed! :rotfl:

LOL :rotfl2: You REALLY want to get those inlaws out of the way, don't you! :rotfl:
Of course, you could always give the kids the master and YOU could take the pull out so the inlaws could stay downstairs and visit! ;)

Hmmmm, let me consider that. Uh, NO. :teeth: They are not so bad, but I'm glad that we'll all have our own spaces to retreat to when "togetherness" becomes too much!

That reminds me...

We had a GV and 2 studios reserved last January. Friends would be in one studio, my SIL and family were in another, BIL and family and MIL/FIL were to be upstairs in the GV while our family of 4 (5yo and almost 3yo) would stay in the master.

Time has dulled the memories... Have to admit that the kids had a BLAST! And wasn't that the point of the trip? But for our own sanity, DH and I have agreed, never again... unless we can just have the kids! Lol!

Never say never, right? Maybe in another 10 years, we would have forgotten the negative and would be stu..., I mean brave enough to try again... but then again, maybe NOT!

My sympathies to you! Lol! :rotfl2: :rotfl:

DH and I were mad at his parents. I refused to sleep under the same roof with them. We had DH's sister switch with them. It worked out in the end. It was more convenient for SIL to put her son to sleep upstairs and then come down to socialize and do laundry. And MIL/FIL had some privacy and rest away for the mad house of 6 grandchildren. We technically still shared a roof since the studio was in the same building but at least it was in a completely different unit.

Actually I think you stand a pretty decent chance of landing a GV at OKW...they have quite a few and unless you are going over a holiday or something you stand a chance anyways....we booked one 90 days out summer of 03....had a 2 BR and my DS and BIL decided to join us....called hoping to get a studio in the same bldg and she offered to check on the GV....I laughed and said...well its your time, go ahead and check (thinking "dream on lady") and alas she comes right back and says....we have it available for all 5 nights!!

I couldn't believe it...but the CM wasn't suprised at all....she said they have quite a bit of availability during the week (and I never have enough points for the weekends anyways) most of the year until 60 to 90 days out

Don't know if she really knew what she was talking about....but you can always hope for some of the pixie dust!!
