I'm thinking of doing some work from home to earn a little extra income. For anyone that does work from home, I have a few questions:

1) What do you do?
2) Do you like it?
3) Do you feel it is "worth it?"

Any other advice you have is greatly appreciated!

I have started my own business that processes checking drafts for businesses who have clients who pay monthly/twice a month. I love what I do and am hopeful that now that I don;t work full-time elsewhere that I can really build up the business.

However, I love bookkeeping and would love to also work doing that.

I sell construction tools. My company gives me a van, a gas card, an expense card and a computer. I work from my house; but I am on the road every day in 4 counties.

I love what I do. The pay is more than excellent and yes, overall it is worth it. I have my days, just like any job, but in the long run I wouldn't want to do anything else. Except retire :D

I have a billing business for local doctors and dentists..I do the billing and insurance forms for them. I do like it and enjoy not having to go out each day anymore.

I do graphic layout and web site design from home...and I wouldn't have it any other way....

I manage a small trucking company and my boss is nice enough to allow me to work from home. I do the dispatching, accounting, payroll, etc. -- and even DIS a little on the side!;)

Okay, one more question for everyone:

How did you find your job? Internet search, referral, etc.?

I don't work exclusively from home, but I have the capabilities to do everything at home that I can do in my office. I am in IT support, and am totally hooked up from home. I usually take a work from home day every other week. I am putting together a proposal for my boss's boss, to see if I can make this a permanent, official arrangement. Especially with gas prices the way they are, eliminating 1 50 mile round trip a week, could make a difference.

This is a position that I sort of 'grew into' so I konw this is not much help, Debi.

I have been working at home in some form another for about 6 years. I started out doing billing and activations at home for my Dad's pager business. I also did small data entry jobs but those didn't come up very often. I babysat afterschool kids for a year, but I don't want to do that anymore.

For about 1 1/2 years now I have been sewing for a small company. It gets really busy during the fall until Christmas and the income is pretty good during that time. For the rest of the year the work trickles in. I got this job through a friend.

I am in the process of coming up with some things to make at home and already have some orders when I get them made. I don't know how this will turn out, but I am pretty excited about it.

I run my own business from home and I love it. It keeps me busy and at times I think it can be more stressful than if I worked outside the home since I have the kids with me. I love being able to still be with them as well as bring in extra income.

I didn't "find" my job, I started out selling my daughter's clothes on eBay and it occured to me that I had enough to start a business. eBay fees were outrageous, buyers often never paid me or I had to hunt down my payment, and I wanted some other features eBay didn't offer so my friend and I decided to start an alternative to eBay for selling children's items. I love it!

I think the trick to being happy working at home is finding something you enjoy doing. If you hate data entry, don't do data entry. If you have a talent, exploit it and find something that could possibly revolve around that.

MosMom - I totally agree with you to find something you love doing. I am so excited about my project that I can't sleep at night. I haven't been this way in a long, long time. I just hope it pans out.

People keep trying to get me back into the secretarial end or doing resumes at home because I wrote resumes for 10 years. But you know what, I hated it and I don't want to do that. Yes, I could make decent money, but at what price to me and my family.

Good luck Debi with whatever you decide to do:)
