My lovely lab mix (18 months old), who NEVER has chewed any of my furniture decided to give it a try 2 weeks ago. I have a dining room hutch has embellishments that look like a herringbone braid - matches the top of the chairback. I recently had a party and swiped it with a pledge furniture wipe (lemon scented) which I think she was attracted to. She chewed a significat chunk off of this embellishment. It's approx 8" long and maybe 3" wide and curved.

What is the best way to repair? Is there a source of laminates that I can choose something that closely matches? My husband is handy with tools and he can probably patch/repair, but would like to know if we can match something like this.

A photo would help quite a lot here. From what it sounds like, you are speaking of what might be a carved ornament, but it's very hard to tell from the description.

How old is the furniture, and what wood is it made of? (This is a good clue as to whether your ornament is applied or carved.)

For photos, closeups of the good and the bad side are useful.

As NotUrsula said, a picture would really help. It sounds like you are describing a decorative verneer. If so, finding a match could be difficult. You could try some of the more popular woodworking suppliers on the internet - here are some suggestions:

http://www.woodcraft.com

That being said, you are probably looking at bringing in a professional, who will have more resources available to determine level of damage and the materials needed to effect a repair.
