Hello!:wave2:

I was just wondering if someone could please tell me when do the schools go back after the summer break? Is is August or September?

Thankyou!!

Hi Jen! It depends on the school system. Most that I know go back the tail end of August but I have heard tell of some that wait until after labor day (early in Sept.)

Here in NE Indiana we are back in school the 3rd week of August.

It varies widely-I've seen pretty much the whole range of August to mid-September posted on here.

If you are trying to plan your trip -I would think that late September would be a good time. The schools should be back in by then. Of course many people pull their children out of school for Disney or home school.
I don't think there is a REALLY slow time anymore.

Generally in the south they go back in August (some as early as the first week in August) in the north they generally go back late August/Early September. I don't know of any schools that start later then the second week of September so planning a trip for late Sept would be a good idea.

It varies -- mostly based on warmer climates getting out earlier and going back earlier. In the Orlando area, they are out May 22 and back in school August 3. In my area of CT, schools get out mid-to late June and go back either right before or right after Labor Day, Sept. 3 in 2007.

Many schools, at least in the East, also close for the Jewish High Holy Days -- another time folks may head down to Disney. In 2007, I believe Rosh Hashana starts 9/13 and Yom Kippur is 9/22. WDW won't be "jammed" but attendance should pick up.

Thankyou for all of the replies! I wish we could go in September or November but as I am a teacher I am limited to school holidays only. I had heard that American schools go back earlier than UK ones so I was hoping that August would not be as busy as July.

No such luck! Sorry...

I have to stick to school holidays too, and so booking last week of August and 1st week September. I am sure I read reports here that last year parks were quiet around this time. (remember its Disney Value season late August)

What I do is I go the end of August because although some kids haven't gone back to school yet (like my own kids up here in MA), many have so the crowd dies down as each week goes by in August. Most of Florida and other southern states have gone back.

We usually go the last full week of August (without Labor Day weekend). I thought it was fine crowd-wise. What I have to compare it to is our trips the end of Sept, end of Oct and beginning of Dec.

Of course, August does have rain and is VERY hot and humid. Its also hurricane season.

When do your schools get out in the spring? That might be an option. We went the first week of June in '05 and the crowds were pretty small then-walked on to most rides, 30 minute wait at most for the week. Also, do you have a large break sometime other then Christmas or Easter? If you have a mid-winter break say in February, that might be a great time to go too?

Texas recently passed a law mandating public schools cannot start before the last week in August. It takes effect this year ('07). However, a significant % of students go back to school in early August for football, band, cheerleading, dance team, ROTC, volleyball, etc.

Here in central Kentucky, we go back mid-August. When I was a child and lived in Michigan, we usually went back the day after Labor Day (Labor Day is the first Monday in September, I believe).

It varies alot so I probably wouldn't bank until after labor day weekend for all the schools to be back in session.

We go back the first week of August here, but the parks are crazy all through the month of August. Our spring break is the 3rd week of March. I wouldn't go near any of the parks that week, either. Late Sept. or October is probably your best bet.

Here in Mass. they go back the Tues. after Labor Day.

Starting this fall, Florida schools cannot go back any earlier than 2 weeks before Labor Day.
