Question for American Girl collectors

I bought my daughter an American Girl Samantha off of Ebay. It stated it was an older doll since it still said Pleasant Company on the neck.

The seller guessed it was from 1994 but wasn't entirely sure.

The outfit it came with was a dark gray pleated outfit with black mary jane shoes and white socks. It also had a black ribbon (almost charcoal color)
The dress had a date of 1990 on it. The eyes are great and the hair is absoleutely fabulous!

When did the dress change from the gray style to the current plaid style?
Also how long did the gray dress come with Samantha?

Lastly, is this worth more or less since it is an older AG?

My daughter adores it and she has not let go of it since Christmas. Is there any thing special I should use to clean the "skin"?

Thanks!

Check on the American Girl Website for instructions on how to clean Samantha although, I'd recommend the doll hospital. My daughter just sent Kit to the American Girl Hospital to reattatch a limb - and she came back all clean, fixed and complete with a hospital gown and a get well balloon.

Here's the link...

They do a wellness visit for $20...well worth it!

Hmm, I've been receiving the AG catalogue for well over 12 years and I remember Samantha always wearing a plaid dress. Was the grey dress you were talking about her school outfit perhaps?

Thanks for posting the link. My niece (14 years old) has a Kristen doll that isn't in the best shape (it was well played with.) Mostly her hair isn't in good shape, but it isn't terrible. Would just a wellness check fix this, or should I spring for a whole new head? It does need cleaning, all over.

Is her hair just matty? I know the actual AG stores have a doll saloon where you can have their hair redone. The first night I had Molly I took out her braids, biggest mistake but last year I took her to the store in Chicago and they redid her braids and they looked veryyyy good. They do all sorts of things!
