question for a starwars expert (episode 3 --spolier)

Just for conversation sake, does Leia know at the time Luke asks that question that he is her brother, that Mom is dead, etc? There is not part of the story where they talk about Mom, in the ANH/ESB/ROTJ films, they only talk about Vader. Doesn't he tell her after he asks about her Mother? Do they discuss she was adopted ever, and from whom? I don't recall exactly where in the conversation she is told, even though her reply is "I've always known" or something to that effect.

Is it possible the memories she is referring to as memories Organa's wife? She would have been very sad, the Republic had fallen and they strongly believed in it.

C'mon, Lucas had no idea he was going to make 3 movies before Star Wars. When Ep IV came out in 1977, it was called Star Wars. No Ep IV, no A New Hope, just Star Wars. When it was rereleased in 1978, it had Ep. IV on it. I believe Lucas wrote the back stories for the major characters, but he hadn't fleshed out the first 3 movies. THere are many 'problems' with continuity:

1 Leia remembers her mother, her real mother in Ep VI
2 Obi Wan says that when he first met Anakin, he was already an accomplished pilot. Anakin was a 10 year old boy who'd never been off Tatooine
3 Vader doesn't recognize THreepio, the droid he built from scratch, in Ep V. I'd like a scene with Vader holding Threepio's head after he was blasted on Cloud City, maybe even Vader starting to reassemble him. This could of been the start of Vader's redemption
4 Obi Wan hides out on Anakin's home planet??

If Leia is that force sensitive, why doesn't Vader sense her? He spends lots of time around her in IV. He even tortures her. Yet he doesn't have the slightest idea that Luke has a sister until the end of Return of the Jedi...even Luke doesn't realize that until Obi Wan comes back to spill the beans.

Ok..after talking to some friends who are bigger Star Wars geeks than I am, we have come up with some answers.

1.Regarding Leia and her 'memories' of her real mother: She remembers through the Force. It binds them.

2. Did you see the way that kid piloted the podracer?

3. Vader recognizes Threepio. That's why Threepio is given back to
Chewie to be rebuilt, instead of being discarded.

4. Vader was tired of dealing with Obi-Wan, and thought the baby was
dead.

5. Leia was not as strong in the force at the beginning. She didn't
start to REALLY feel the force until Luke was hanging from the bottom of
Cloud City. Even still, she had no training by ROTJ.

Chewbacca wasn't given Threepio on the Cloud City of Bespin. He went looking through the metal scrap about to be melted.

Vader never even knew the child was born -- Palpatine tells Vader that he killed Padme in his anger.

I guess I'll have to go back and watch Ep III again. I don't remember that.

If the SE of the original trilogy accompished anything it was making this actually enjoyable. The changes he made make the IV, V, and VI less of a giant change in style.

Not exactly a 100% great thing (most of the changes just distract for the story) but it does flow much better now.

After pondering the questions posed by the almighty GL, I came up with some more questions of my own.

a) Where the heck does Princess Leia get her lipstick from? There are no Sephoras in space!

b) The Ewoks HAD to have been gay. Who the heck else would worship gold lamé? ;)

c) If Vader cuts one in his outfit, will you hear it in his breathing? *INHALE-TOOOT*

d) If he sneezes, does snot come out the little grid thing in the front?
:rotfl2: :rotfl: :teeth:

Although I think GL did a good job tying up the movie version, I can't help but mentioning something that made more sense to me.

In the book version of ROTJ, Obiwan tells Luke that he was taken to Tattoine to live with Obiwan's brother Owen. Just thought I'd mention that.

You are saying that in the book they changed Owen from being Luke's uncle to being Ob-Wan's uncle?

Yup. I"ll have to go look up the specific page/passage, but it does say that Owen is Obi-wan's brother instead of Ani's mom's brother (which I originally thought it was).

Owen was Anikin's stepbrother. Anikin's mom married Owen's father.

IF she was married, then where was her husband in Ep I? Did he die? Sold into slavery the way she was to that creepy bug flying lizard elephant man thing? What?

Don't think there was a husband. Don't quote but I believe that book (Episode 1) said it was immaculate conception. Apparently, Anakin has this abundance of midichlorians that made it possible for him to be conceived without any Force heritage...um...I think I'm a geek...I need to rethink my life right now...

Naw, Owen's dad bought her from the creepy flying guy (looked it up, his name was Watto. In Star Wars every darn character has a name, even if they just happen to walk through the scene) after Anakin ran off with Obi-Wan and ended up marrying her. Owen is apparently his son from before that, because he says something to Anakin like "I'm Owen, I guess we're stepbrothers." That makes him Luke's step-uncle. Personally I have seen the first movie since Episode 3 came out and I sort of wondered what happened between Owen and Obi-Wan in the intervening 20 years, they seem to have had a major falling out over something.

I remember reading a story in a SW comic that was a brief vignette during ESB where stormtroopers brought Threepio to Vader. I don't remember if it was established that Vader recognized Threepio as the droid he built when he was a kid or if he thought it was a similar droid that reminded him of a more innocent time. In the end, he tells the stormtroopers to have the droid discarded.

In a way, Tattooine may have been the best place to hide. It's a remote planet and probably the last place Vader would have wanted to go, as it would have too many painful memories for him.

In the Star Wars Insider magazine "Ask the Master" section (my DD9 is a faithful reader), they explain this anomaly by stating that Leia was played holograms of Padme while growing up, understanding her to her real mother

If that came from Lucasfilm, it's considered canon. I'm not sure how well that jibes with a fairly recent novel, though. In "Tattooine Ghost" (set several years after ROTJ), Leia and Han go to Tattooine to retrieve a priceless Alderaanian artifact that also holds a key to a rebel spy code. While there, Leia meets one of Anakin's childhood friends and learns about her father's youth and notoriety. She sees a holo of the pod race, including a shot of Shmi, Qui-Gon, Padme, and Jar Jar. There's no indication she recognized Padme, but the holo could have been poor quality or Padme was partially obscured (I don't remember all the details; I'll have to find the book tomorrow).

I still have the Marvel comic version of Ep V! I'll take a look to see if it's in there.

It won't be. It was in a more recent (since AOTC came out in 2002) comic published by Dark Horse.
