Hello. My family goes to disney for 5 days every year at Christmas. We have stayed in all of the value and moderate resorts. We decided this year we would stay at POFQ, since it had been 5 or so years, since we had. We've never stayed at a deluxe.

We always spend a lot of time at the Poly and I know my parents are dissapointed they cant afford (or really justify the money spend) to stay there.

Ive decided that as a Christmas/20th Anniversary present, I want to upgrade our POFQ to the Poly.

Here are my questions.

We have our rooms (Dec 12-16th) completley booked and paid for, at POFQ.
We are AP holders and florida residents and AAA members as well. And I want to get the best deal, and also, make sure I can get a room booked.

Should I call now and switch the reservation, using the money put down on POFQ as a deposit/payment? And then pay the rest later?

Or should I wait till the AP/FL discounts come out in August?

Also Im not sure where I want to stay. If i cant get a discount at all, a garden room is fine. If I can get a discount (depending on the cost) Id love to do Lagoon concerige, but would settle for a magic kingdom view (no concerige), with the discount.

Im just very new to this complicated stuff. We usually book a mod (with a good rate) or a value, since in the past with me being younger, and my brother being younger, weve commandoed the parks. But now that we're older, its more about relaxation, and food and family time. Also, since i'm looking at spending at around $800 I want to make sure it goes as far as it can, And I know this is something theyd really enjoy, and I want to get it right.

Also, I want to surprise my parents the day of, and have no ideas yet, on how to do that. Id like my mom to go check in at POFQ, only to be told their daughter had upgraded the family to the Poly or something... would Disney be able to do something like that?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You *could* do that.. or you could wait. I'd wait personally.. see what discounts come available. Of course by waiting, you risk that nothing comes available for your dates and stuff books up and then you can't upgrade at all -- even without a discount.

I'm not sure on this one.. Hopefully someone else will chime in -- My gut says wait. But I'm not an expert by ANY means.

Ok.. now I've read that.. I'd maybe call and switch the reservation to a garden view room and then wait for the discounts and hope for more.

I have no idea what time 'around Christmas' you're looking at. If you're looking at anything after December 23rd, I'd suggest you be prepared for absolutely NO discount codes to come out for the dates December 23 to January 01/2008.

Disney just doesn't discount the "Holday" season generally speaking in my experience. Now the days prior to Dec 23, yes, discounts frequently apply.

As for surprising your parents.. I don't know how that might work. Again, hopefully someone with more experience can chime in.

Thanks for the advice! We are going Dec 12-16th, so I know there will be discounts. I just dont want them to sell out!

What a nice thing to do for your parents, I would post this on the code and discount rate forum. You will probably get lots of answers there! Good luck!

That is so sweet of you to surprise your parents. We have always stayed Garden View when at the Poly, and have liked it. While you may not see the lagoon & MK from your room, all you need to do is walk around the longhouse a bit, and have a great view. We like 1st floor in Thaiti...go out the sliding door, walk a few feet out and you can see Wishes and the ELP. (Just make sure you have bug spray)

As far as the surprise...There was a thread on here a few weeks ago, about someone trying to do something similar. Someone mentioned to try and tell the person you are surprising that you are having Lunch at the Poly (or whatever meal works for when you are going) and then just go check in. That way you are not wasting time going to another resort (although it may be perfect for a good laugh!)

Whatever you do, Have a blast!

This really is more of a codes & rates question than anything else. I'm going to move this there.
