Question about when parks get full

Hi everyone,

We're headed for Disney this Christmas and have never been there for such a crowded week. My question is this: If you are staying on property, can you still get into a park even when it has "closed"? We have an ill child who is often not able to make it out of the hotel until later in the morning, and I'm just wondering if we will not be able to get into the parks because of this.

Thanks so much!

Just based on my experience, if the parks get crowded, they will close the parking lot and close the park to offsite guests first, still letting in onsite Disney resort guests. A park would have to be so crowded that it would be a fire hazard or something before they would close it to onsite guests. Last Christmas week I was there, and the Magic Kingdom did close to offsite guests for a few hours from about 11 until 2 on Christmas Day. If you're staying onsite though, I wouldn't worry about it. If any cast members feel differently about this and know more, feel free to post? And warn us about this, but I doubt you'll have to worry if you're an onsite guest.

This dosnt really help in your case but if you have already entered the park and you leave and while you are gone they close the park, you can still get in with a hand stamp and ticket. However i dont think you can do this on new years eve.

I was wondering if I have ressies on New Years Eve for inside the park and the park closes, do we still get into that park? Thanks, Gina

To the best of my knowledge, you cannot make reservations to be inside a specific park.

Well, I am going to guess you that they meant dinner ressies in a specific park. You are not guaranteed entrance to a specific park. We stayed there on NYE once, and since we were stayng on property, we were guaranteed entrance to one of the open parks. We were in MK all day but then ended up going to Epcot for the Fireworks at midnight and had no problems park hopping.

Most times, that I have heard, when a park fills to capacity, it happens early in the day and most times it opens back up later. Quite often the parking lot will to capacity but the park will not, but when they turn cars away people assume the park is filled to capacity as well, which is not always true.

Best plan is to get to the park you want to be at early. If you have ressies in the MK then you may want to plan the day there, the other parks don't often fill to capacity as easy as the MK.

But do you really want to be in a park that is close to capasity? It will be wall to wall people and you'd have much more fun in another park.

We are going to get tickets for the Rock & Roll Buffet on New Years Eve in Epcot but really didn't want to go the the parks all day. Thought we would hang around the campground and relax for awhile before hitting the parks being they will be open till 1am. Sounds like the only park we should have trouble arriving late to is MK. We have our heart set on Epcot for NYE & I didn't want to be turned away at the door because we slept in. Thanks for your reply. Gina:D
