Question About Water Parks

Hi,

We are going to Orlando in early September and have a question about the water parks?

My partner is very keen to spend some time at a water park (bless him, he just cannot resist those slides!) but it is not really my sort of thing....it takes me all my time to get up the courage to get out from behind my towel and go in a normal swimming pool!

Is everyone in the park usually wearing their swimming costumes or are there lots of people fully dressed? Also, if I stayed dressed, am I likely to get soaked?

Many thanks for your help!

I would say atleast 98% of the visitors to the water parks are in their swim wear for most of the day. And put it this way, Who cares about what you look like in a swimsuit, or what you do when your at the water park (or anywheres in disney), once you leave, the chance is, you will never ever see thoes people again, so why worry?

and if the slides arn't your thing, get a chair by the wave pool, bring a book, and get a nice tan. Or even better, get a tube and float around the lazy river while your partner is on the slides.

If slides aren't your thing, Typhoon Lagoon might be the better park for you to go to. There are plenty of slides for you partner and a huge wave pool you can relax by.

I always wear a sarong for the parks...My most favorite park is the lazy river where you float round and round on the current it is truly fabulous. I wear my sarong up to ,onto, and from the ride and no one bats an eyelid...it makes me feel comfortable.

Because I burn really easily ive also worn a light t-shirt on the river again no one even noticed.

My DH HATES pools and water in general. If he was to have his way he wouldn't ever have to go swimming so he wasn't exactly looking forward to our trip to BB last trip.

He had a BLAST !! Our entire family decided this was one of the best things we did the entire trip and hopefully this year we will make time to go back !!

Don't worry about the swim wear - you will soon forget all about it. You will be surprised at all the types you will find at the Disney waterparks and not feel funny.

Okay I haven't worn a swimsuit in over 9 years and this year I had no choice as the baby is 17mos old and is going into the water whether I want to or not. So I did it I bought a swimsuit and our trip to TL was the first time I wore it in front of DH.

There are all kinds of shapes and sizes at the water parks. Please just go and I bet you'll be glad you did.

Our time at TL was the best!

Many thanks to everyone who has replied! I will find a nice big sarong and give it go.... I'm so glad I found this board!

Best regards,

Michelle :D

I agree with the earlier poster. Let your hubby go down all the slides he wants and you spend the afternoon on the lazy river. I never thought I would enjoy it but I did.

Hi Michelle- first, let me tell you how much I love that you call it a "swimming costume". The Brits really do it best when it comes to language! Anyway.... don't feel even the least bit uncomfortable at the water parks in your suit, it will be fine. There are people of all shapes and sizes and you tend to forget (at least I did) your own shortcomings and just enjoy your time there. When I was at the parks in June, I was so busy having a fantastic time with my DD that I couldn't have cared less about what I looked like (or, what I thought I looked like) in my bathing suit. The parks are so much fun... just go and ENJOY!!!

Have a wonderful vacation!

I feel a little uncomfortable walking around water parks in just my swim suit, so I bought a pair of men's swim trunks and I wear them over my swim suit. I don't feel as naked and, unlike a sarong or swim cover, I can get the trunks wet and not worry about taking them on and off and/or carrying them around when I'm going on the rides.

Thanks Erin, MaryKatesMom and rkrivas!

I am getting really excited now! Only 11 days to go and we have just changed our hotel to the HRH for the last 3 days, so its getting even better.

Thanks again everyone,

Michelle

Michelle,
You might try running shorts over your swimsuit. That's my key to waterparks. There is a lot of walking around and I've never felt comfortable walking around in just my swimsuit. Running shorts dry fast and have worked well for me.

Just wanted to add that Lands End makes all kinds of WONDERFUL swimsuits (www.landsend.com). They have a suit that actually has shorts attached to the tank (does that make sense?) I have one where the bottom is a skirt and the top is a tank. I wore it to our local water park and was very comfortable. Anyway, check out Lands End...they have plus sizes and they offer sarongs, too.
