Question about UY

I'm seriously considering buying a resale. I really think BWV would suit me best because my two favorite parks are Epcot and MGM. I like the convenience of the location for both of the parks as well as the various eating options close by.

So, I'm trying to decide which would be the best UY for me. I normally like to vacation at WDW in September or October. I don't have any problem with planning, so making my reservations 11 months in advance would be fine with me. Which UY would make the most sense for me?

On a related note, I know that Epcot is usually busy in October with the Food and Wine Festival. If I made my reservation 11 months in advance, do you think I would have any trouble getting a studio for a week in October?

TIA for the help!

Keep in mind that use year does not affect when you can book, it affects banking points and using points after cancellations.

You should have no problem booking 11 months in advance for food & wine.

If you plan to always go in Sept or Oct, an August or September use year would be best, that way you have plenty of time to bank points if you have to cancel a Sept/Oct vacation. If your times may vary, it doesn't matter much.

You should hav no trouble making an 11 month booking at your home resort, no matter which it is, unless you are looking for hard to come by things like a standard view or Boardwalk view at BWV.

As for use year...I'm one of those that don't think use year holds much importance at all. It makes no difference for booking purposes, and the only consideration would come if you are in the habit of making late trip cancellations. If you are in the habit of canceling trips close to your trip dates, then you will want to be able to bank those points, so you will want to be in the first half of your use year when your trip happens.

We have been members for more than 10 years, and have never had to deal with that scenario, so I'm not so sure I would worry too much about use year.

A September use year would be your best bet. That way if you have to cancel, you will still be able to bank or use your points if you need to.

If you make a reservation 11 months in advance, you won't have any problem at all. You will even be able to get a standard room or a Boardwalk view room. We own at the BWV and are going this October. We made the reservations 11 months in advance with no problem.

Good luck and have fun.

Thanks everyone! Although I'm a little confused by what I bolded above. At BWV, is there a category other than a standard view or Boardwalk view? It looked like from everything I've read that there are only two categories - standard and preferred (i.e. Boardwalk view). If both the standard and Boardwalk views are hard to come by, maybe it's not the resort for me?

There are actually two booking catagories for Preferred View. A much smaller portion of the preferred view is Boardwalk view than not. If you want one of the less numerous Boardwalk rooms, you must book it as a specific booking catagory, but the point cost is the same as regular preferred view.

If you own BWV and reserve your vacation when the 11 month window opens, the standard view and guaranteed Boardwalk view units are NOT hard to come by. (They can be hard to get if you procrastinate or if you have to wait to book them book them until the 7 month window opens). For certain times of the year, it's a good idea to book day by day when the 11 month window opens if you want a standard view or a guaranteed Boardwalk view.

As Diane has already posted There are actually 3 separate booking categories at the BWV. SV, PV -Boardwalk view and PV -Pool/Garden view.

If you want to be able to regularly stay in a SV or PV -Boardwalk view studio at the BWV during EPCOT's Food & Wine Festival (late September until mid-November), then you need to own at the BWV.

OK, I understand now. Whew - this stuff is interesting to try to figure out. Now I'm probably going to drive myself nuts trying to figure out how many points to buy - LOL!

Thanks everyone - I'm sure I'll be back with more questions, but I'll try not to pester too much!

BWV is a sold out resort. DVC does have a few points to sell, but you may not have a lot of choice about UY. Only SSR and AKV are actively being sold by DVC. If you want BWV and want to buy directly from Disney, be persistent with your DVC Guide. Otherwise, if BWV is your choice, you may need to look at resales.

Actually, Preferred and Boardwalk view are not the same. While Boardwalk view IS preferred view, Preferred view isn't necessarily Boardwalk view. Boardwalk view, while the same point value as all other preferred views is a seperate guarnateed booking catagory.
