Question about using Priceline or Hotwire

I am considering trying it. I never have before. When we go to book it says it only guarantees a room for 2 that any requests like 2 beds must go directly threw the hotel after booking and are not guaranteed.

Has anyone booked and not been able to get 2 beds ? We need the room for 4 people so if we book and only get 1 bed we will be in trouble.

I suggest you read up at betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com.

I have always gotten the type of room I wanted, but I suppose there may be some risk there.

Another option is using the top secret deals on travelocity, where you can put in the occupancy you need.

I've used Hotwire and Travelocity secret hotels for years now.I stopped using Priceline name your price cause many times they would upgrade me from a 2.5 star hotel to a 3 star hotel when I knew the 2.5 hotel in the area I had gotten before and thought I could get again was better than the 3 star hotel they "upgraded" me to.It's like a way to make you feel like you're getting a better deal when in reality you're not.As far as getting a room with two beds,I've gotten rooms with two beds in Orlando like 98% of the time.Again that's because it's Orlando since it's a family destination so a lot of rooms have two beds.I usually call the hotel a day or two after booking and make sure the room has two beds.Sometimes I forget to call and when I get to the hotel I still get a two bed room and on very rare ocassions I'll forget to call and when I get there they tell me it's a room with one bed.One time I paid $10 more per night to get a room with two beds.Another time I booked a room by the Orlando airport which since is away from the tourist areas might have more rooms with only one bed since it might get more business travelers.In that stay they told me they had no more rooms with two beds but at least the room had a sofabed.I wouldn't hesitate to use these booking sites but I would try to make sure it's a hotel in one of the main tourist areas and after booking call the hotel to make sure it has two beds.

Hotwire let's you specify the number of guests and gurantees appropriate bedding.

PL NYOP only guarantees double occupancy. Some cities a room with one double bed, without enough room for a cot, is common.
PP is right. Most, vast majority, of rooms in Orlando have 2 beds. You can call. Hotel can still give you a leftover room, only suitable for 2. They could decide not to allow 4 in the room, even if 2 will sleep on the floor.
I agree, risk is low.

We use Priceline all the time. I can't think of a time that we didn't get two beds on request. It's not guaranteed though.

Getting a room with 2 beds in Orlando is easy. I'd avoid checking in late.

Some cities a room with 2 beds will either be unavailable to PL guests or will be subject to an upgrade charge

I can't speak for renting rooms, but I use Hotwire all the time for renting cars. I usually travel alone and go for the economy car and usually get one for around $12 a day.

Specify 3 and you'll get a room with 2 beds. PL NYOP only guarantees double occupancy. Some cities PL customers get a room with a full bed, without enough room for a cot or air mattress.

If you read the "fine print" at PL, they tell you they only guarantee double occupancy. In some hotels, especially in older cities where hotels are older with smaller rooms (like Boston or NYC), you could end up with just one double bed, and no space for a cot or aerobed. However, Hotwire lets you specify the number of occupants and will sell you a room with bedspace for that many people. Having said that, I have never had an issue getting two beds when needed, but if two is important, I use Hotwire rather than PL. I also carefully research the possible hotels available by city, neighborhood, and star level on betterbidding.com before I place a Hotwire bid. I have won the hotels I anticipated I'd get the majority of the time.
