I was thinking of doing a split stay CBR/AKL. If they have both free dining and a room discount during my dates can I use free dining on CBR and then the room discount on AKL ? I know I will have two separate reservations, so I'm thinking I can ?

Hope so, because with our split stay, the first is a package and the second is resort only - park tickets will carry over from first stay. Hoping for free dining for the first and percent off room only for the second.... tick... tick.... tick...

That would work! You can apply one discount to each reservation, and since they are two separate reservations, you can apply a different discount to each.

If we get free dining on our first resort CBR, we can still use that until midnight on the day we arrive to at AKL right ?

How do the tickets carry over the whole trip? I was told if I did a split stay, I would have to buy two separate sets of tickets which would add to the cost significantly. If there is a way to have the park tickets carry over that would be awesome. We have free dining in November. I was hoping to be able to spend a day or two at the Poly at the end of our trip. How could I go about doing this and not buy new tickets for the Poly part of the stay?

Thanks

When you make your package reservation just tell them the number of days you need tickets for. It doesn't have to match the number of days on your package reservation and yes you can use your food credits up to midnight on the day you check out of you first resort.

You will need to have them move the park tickets to your new room key when you check in at AKL. We are planning to do this on our Nov stay (CBR and AoA) and have done it before with a split stay at CBR and Poly.

Does the 2nd stay have to be a room only reservation? Is it possible to get free dining for both and have the tickets carry over?

Disney doesn't actually recognize "split" stays, but regards them as 2 separate reservations. The requirements for FD on your first resort reservation would also be required for FD on your second resort reservation if you want FD on both reservations. Thus both stays would require room at rack rate, minimum of 2 day tickets for everyone 3 years and older in the room and a minimum 3 night stay.

Now, you can get length of vacation tickets for your first reservation and use those tickets for the entire duration of this vacation. The 2 day tickets you have to purchase for the FD at resort #2 can be saved for a future trip as long as you don't accidently use them during this vacation.

Because buying 2 sets of tickets and staying at rack rate negates the FD savings, most people opt for a room only for the second resort and hope to get a room rate discount instead, but it doesn't HAVE to be a room only res. It's your preference.

You will need to have them move the park tickets to your new room key when you check in at AKL.

You don't have to have your tickets transfered to your new KTTW cards at the second resort. If you don't mind carrying 2 KTTW cards you can leave them on your first resort KTTW card and use them to enter the parks.

Yep, I do this all the time. ;)

Then you may want to consider a FD/room only split stay - like the OP is asking about.

Here are the differences;

Option #1 (your scenario) Book (2) FD packages back to back - requirement to purchase a min of 2 day base tickets for each FD package.

Option #2 (OP's scenario) Book (1) FD package and (1) room only reservation - requirement to purchase a min of 2 days base tickets on the FD package only.

Example; you can book a 10 day base ticket on the FD package...and use the extra ticket days during your Poly room only reservation.

Does the 2nd stay have to be a room only reservation? Is it possible to get free dining for both and have the tickets carry over?

I'm not following you on having the tickets carry over...are you asking if there is any way to pay 1 flat ticket rate for both FD reservations? If so, the answer is, no. You must purchase a min of 2 day base tickets on each FD reservation. Like pp stated, this usually is not cost effective since Disney tickets are front-loaded to be more expensive the first 4 days. Thus negating the FD savings...

Yes, for the second reservation to be exempt from purchasing addtional park tickets - the Poly needs to be room-only.

*Again* you are free to book back to back FD packages, but you will be required to purchase minimum 2 day base tickets for each.

Does this make sense? :confused3
