Question about Using Child Dining Credits

I need some input from the experts on this :wave2:

We have the free regular dining plan for two adults and a 5-year-old. We currently have 7 TS ADRs, one of which is a 2-credit signature. Our stay is for 7 nights. We are considering not taking our DD to the 2-credit signature. This will leave us with 2 unused credits.

Are these credits tied to her and only able to be used for a child's meal, or can they be used by any of us?

What we would like to do is go to Sci Fi Cafe (the cheapest place we have ressies for) the day before, get two adult meals using two TS credits, and pay OOP for something for DD. Then, the next day we'd go to Yachtsman (our signature restaurant) and use 4 credits for DH and myself (DD won't be there). This will leave us with three credits left to use at BOG the next day (our last day), but they will all be credits we have because we either paid OOP for DD, or she wasn't there. Will this work, or will we end up at BOG with them saying "umm, wait, all three of these credits are for kid meals."?

To explain a different way, I guess I'm just trying to determine if TS credits are "tied" to each person on the reservation, or if the computer looks at them all the same and it's up to the CMs to recognize when one of the users is a child and to make sure that child orders his/her meal off the kid menu?

I hope this makes sense!

On the regular DDP:

TS credits are separated into adult and children.

CS credits are pooled into one account.

Unfortunately, your plan won't work unless you upgraded your child to an adult (and paid to upgrade the park ticket as well). Many people do this.

Thanks! This is what I thought, but someone on a Facebook group was saying they all used to be in the same pool when she was a CM, so I wanted to confirm. I'm guessing they caught on to that type of thing in recent years and changed it. Thanks again!

On regular DDP, I believe the TS credits have been separated since the second or third year of the DDP's existence. The former CM is either thinking of CS credits or the DxDDP which does pool credits (or did last time I used it), likely.

If you have 2 extra child TS then you can convert those to 2 child CS meals. The cashiers do this when you're at checkout with the meal and is a straight 1 TS = 1 CS conversion. Not the best use of a credit but better than wasting it.

I do believe (at least the CM literature says so) that this was stopped as of January 2014. You can't trade up or down for credits and have even heard you can't use CS meals for just snacks any more.

Say it ain't so!! We haven't been since August 2013 so I haven't done it since then. I hope that's not the case. Our upcoming trip is 8 nights but only 7 full days so I'll probably have a few credits leftover. I guess I'll find out when I get there, or have extra breakfasts, etc.

You can still use TS credits as QS. The QS to snack exchange is hit or miss.

You are correct. TS can be used for QS but the CM literature says no trading of any credit down to a snack.

Then worst case, if it's a matter of leaving them unused, you should still be able to exchange 1 QS for a drink and dessert, leaving out the entree.

At resorts, not most outlets in parks, you MAY be able to trade a QS for snacks. Because there is no hard and fast rule you are going to be told anything from no snacks for QS to one snack to three snacks. The above is an option if you ask for a "continental combo" which usually consists of a baked good, a piece of fruit and a beverage. Some places are strict about what you can have (it must be a baked good like a muffin or bagel, and it has to be a whole piece of fruit, not a fruit cup or sliced fruit) but some are not.
