Hi,
Under the Useful Info page it said:
"Earlier tipster said t pack a nailclipper in an unlocked outside pocket of your suitcase to cut them off. Also, to leave some siggle room (don't cinch it all the way) so that you can fit the clippers around the cable."

Can someone explain what they are referring to? Cutting what cable?? Sorry, I'm adding some of the useful tips to my To Do list but I have no idea what benefit this is? LOL

Thanks, Sue

This refers to the plastic cable ties which people have used to lock their luggage. At one point, the TSA (Transportation Safety Authority) was just cutting locks off of suitcases if they wanted to inspect them. With the cable ties, you don't lose the locks. I believe you can now purchase TSA approved locks which they can open and re-lock.

We use zip ties (lime green ones) to lock our luggage. Then we use nail clippers to cut them off. Simple, inexpensive, and with using the green ones very easy to spot our bags and see if they were opened.

Would this only be necessary if you were taking an airplane? We will be driving to Los Angeles. Or is this something we would want to do even though we are just handing our bags to porters? Do you just put the ziptie through the zipper pulls?

thanks, Sue

Don't you have to keep your suitcases unlocked now so they can be inspected on flights? wouldn't the zipties be a no-no?

Zip ties are okay...as are TSA approved locks...both of which could be removed to have the luggage inspected. The locks of corse could be place back on...but unless you have additional zip ties....and are able to be there to replace them...they'd be left undone (For flights)

Of coures putting the zip ties on if your driving...really depends on how safe you feel giving all your luggage to the porters and having them deliver it to your stateroom.

I'm not sure how they work it when they collect the luggage from the curb...but my guess is they pile it up then take loads at a time to the various floors...I could be wrong.

One other thing...They don't put your luggage IN your stateroom they leave it outside the door...in the hall...So really anyone could walk by and get into it....well for that matter anyone could simpley walk away with it. But from the sounds here on the board...there hasn't been to much of a problem with that.

If you are not flying you can use the locks on your suitcase and would have no need for ties or clippers.
