My DD (who will be a Freshman this Fall) was asked if she could tutor a child going into 6th grade for Math (for the summer). What is the going rate for tutors?:confused3 This is the first time she will be doing this sort of thing,

Anywhere from $30-60 per hour. My MIL is a pre-school teacher but tutors kids from 1st-5th. She charges $35 an hour. My friend tutors the same age kids but specializes in reading ( also tutors for everything else though) and she told me last week she charges $60 an hour!

I agree with MomtoGKC, but I think a high schooler would get paid less, maybe $10-$20/hour. I actually pay my high schooler $10/hour to tutor her younger brother.

I don't think she''ll be able to get the going rate for tutors because she doesn't have a degree. I would assume that she was asked because the family can't afford the going rate of a tutor. My DD's tutor charges $70 and hour but gives a discount to her friends and charges them $30. I would think $10 to $15 an hour would be fair for a Freshman tutoring middle school math.

Just my 2 ¢

High school freshman $10 per half hour. The going rate for those with a Master's Degree in this area is $30 per half hour.
