Question about $ tree pochos

What section of Dollar Tree did you find the 2 poncho packages?? I also didn't have any luck finding Disney goodies (aside from puzzles that were too babyish for my boys and too old for my DD) or window clings or ANYTHING.

Do I just have a crappy Dollar Tree maybe? Should I try another location?

They are hit or miss around here. Look for the endcaps all around the store..just walk the store, and you will see them hanging on a card from a clip thing hanging from the endcaps. Sometimes. Maybe. It's hit or miss.

I looked all around ours and couldn't find them either. I asked at the checkout and the girl there went and got a couple packages for me. I'm not sure where they were, but she found them right away, so maybe ask and they will get them for you, too. Our $ Tree is hit or miss, as well. I did better on the Disney merchandise at the $ spot inside Target. They were clearing that stuff out last week and I got pens, pencils and hair stuff for $.60. Michael's craft stores have a bunch of Disney stuff for $1, as well.

I second the thought on checking out Michael's. They seem to have the most Disney $1-2 stuff right now. Many little trinkets to choose from.

I always find them by the umbrella's but we have been going to disney every year the past 3 years and finally broke down and went to Cabela's and got some decent ones for 7.00 each :lmao: as the $ ones seem too thin and rip very easy and the past 2 years it has downpoured several times and they just don't seem to hold up:confused3

My Dollar Tree had a small supply of the ponchos near the umbrellas the other day. I also found sturdier re-useable ponchos at Kmart for $5.99 each. I'm debating if I should pick those up as well. I did get a child size poncho at KMart for DS because the Dollar Store ones are too big for him (and I don't like putting that icky plastic on my kid!).

Thanks so much!

We are on a really tight budget so I am trying to save $$ wherever I can. I will try all the dollar stores, target and michael's.

Thanks again!

The cheap ones from Dollar Tree were pretty poor quality. I did okay with mine for one use - very light rain but had to be very careful with it. My DD and son tore theirs in minutes and then they were pretty useless. My DH is tall and so his did not cover much at all. He is wearing the Dollar Tree poncho in this photo.

We ended up buying Disney ponchos while were were there since it rained everyday - and not just a short rainstorm either. The ponchos were 6.99 a piece when we were there June 26-July 4, 2009.

We were just there a week ago. I have to agree that the dollar store ponchos are just not very good. yes they did last barely. I think next time we go we will purchase two nicer ponchos and then bring 2 packages of dollar store ponchos for the stroller and kids.

My dh ripped his poncho and it was a goner. Ours lasted by threads.

I understand your on a budget. If you are getting dollar store ones, compared the price of extra ones vs. better quality. I have seen some for 5 dollars.

At my Dollar Tree they are by the checkout. I usually have to ask at least once during a shopping trip to find something - the employees are helpful at my store (Lafayette, IN). *Fingers Crossed* we have never had to use the ponchos.

I was thinking about getting some in the camping dept at Walmart.

I didn't realize how thin the $$ tree ones were and how easily they ripped. I have a good thick rubber one for my DD and my DS#1 has one that he took camping with him not long ago that he never used to I will only have to buy three. One for me, DH and DS#2. I think I will go with the better quality ones that I know will last more than one use.

Thanks so much for all the advice! Thanks especially for the picture! I don't think my pooh-sized self could fit in one of those without tearing it trying to get it on.

I agree with others that Dollar Tree ponchos are only good for emergencies. We've used several, but always ended up buying others. We now go to Target and buy kid's Disney branded raincoats for about $6 apiece.

We also did not have success with our Dollar ponchos and ended up getting the pricey Disney ones since we had no other option. They did not fit either of us with our bags over our bodies in particular. In addition, they were really short and did not have anything to cover our arms.

If I would have known what I know now I would have gotten the ones I saw at Dick's Sporting Goods. They were only 1.99 each and actually looked like a normal fitting poncho.

At least we got to use the Disney ponchos multiple times and we saved them for use on our next trip.

Disney one's really aren't that pricey in comparison to the quality that they hold up. A good hanging and towel drying overnight and you're good to go for the next day.

I am glad the picture helped you out. Pictures always help me visualize and plan things out. I know I really appreciate all the pictures of things I have seen here on the Dis.

Good idea to check out the camping section at Walmart, I too have bought a poncho there in the past for around 89 cents each. It was an orange one. From the package only, it appeared to be much better quality than the Dollar Tree ones. I sent it with my son on his Outdoor Education trip, so, I can't say how it held up.

I just bought some at Target in the camping section. They were around $1.25 each. They do seem flimsy, but the higher priced/better quality ones were too big to tote around. We're going in December so I don't expect downpours and think these will be fine. Our Walmart had them as well, but I liked the color selection better at Target (have to match my planned wardrobe :upsidedow).

The dollar store ones worked for us, but we didn't have a bit of rain (used them on water rides). If I can't find something in the store, I just ask an employee (I'm also the first person to stop at a gas station if I'm lost).

take some duct tape or package tape it will heal the torn ponchos right up.

Plus I don't mind throwing away a wet nasty 50cent piece of plastic when I know I have a nice dry 50cent twin poncho for the next day.
