Question about travelling with Babies at Disneyland

Hello! I heard that Disneyland has some sort of line waiting program in place for families with small babies so you don't have to wait twice if somebody stays behind w/ baby. Does anybody know anything about this or how it works? I'd love to know.

It's called the Baby Swap or Child Swap. Basically one parent asks the CM at the front of the ride for a child swap pass, and they'll give you a printed piece of colored cardstock. Parent #1 gets in line and rides, then gives the pass to Parent #2, who can then use the Fastpass line, turning in the pass to the CM in that line.

I've heard different variations on this, such as both parents and child wait in line together, and the non-riding parent and child wait at the front of the line while the other parent rides, then the 2nd parent is the next person to ride.

Also, you do not have the use the pass right away. If your child gets antsy and you wander away to do something else, you can come back later to use the pass.

I think you can also ask for the pass even if your child is big enough to ride, but just doesn't want to. Somebody still has to stay behind with the child, so ask for the pass.

We have used this many times - and it has always worked the same for us. Before entering the line - talk to the CM at the front by the fastpass return entrance. Ask them for a "baby swap" pass - and show them the adult waiting with the child(ren). They will either give you the pass, or direct you to a different CM. Party "1" (as many people as you want) then rides the ride. Once you are done - Party "2" (2 people max) then go through the fast pass line and ride the ride. I know some have reported variations - but this is at least how it worked for us on three different 5 day trips.

***Also note - this can be used in conjunction with fastpass - and this is a huge help. So - follow the same instructions - but with a fastpass ticket for all members of party "1" (I have never mentioned that I had a fastpass until afterwards - not sure if it matters). This way BOTH parties get to use the fastpass line - and the waits with small children are substantially minimized.

(We have also used this to get "extra" fastpasses. Say we have a party of four - but only two ride at a time - this allows you double the fast passes since you only need 2 per ride )

somes times like SM you can not use the FP to get on with a child swap.As you go through the exit to get in. you don't even go near the FP line. We wanted to do it and were told we couldn't. So the "extra" kids had to flip a coin to see who got to ride.
