My stepdad has Parkinson's and is going to need and ECV while at WDW. We will only be doing the MK. He won't do the big rides (Space, Thunder, Splash) but the rest of us will. We would love to ride the bug rides but if we leave him by himself he will wonder off while we are riding. My question is can we use rider swap? It would be nicer to have someone wait with him.

Yes you can. Just let the first CM at the ride know what you want to do, and they will explain what needs to happen. Your Dad might still need to go through the line with you, but not ride. Some rides (like Star Wars) they have a spot just off to the side of the loading area that you wait at. Others you just get a special pass that you give to the ones waiting when you get off the ride. It all depends upon how the ride is set up. It's just easier to find the CM to explain it.

All three of the big rides you mentioned have special entrances for people with wheelchairs or ECVs. He will not be able to go into the regular line with you. I am not sure how you do a rider swap for those rides, since he is not riding. Just like you cannot use a GAC for a child when that child is not riding.... I am not sure how it works in this case... I would guess that you would get a pass for those waiting with him, but he would not go through the line on those rides...

I would assume that since WDW refers to it as a rider swap, it would work just like the child swap as we consider it. At Space Mtn, Splash and Big Th we have always gotten the rider swap pass from the CM at the entrance to the line. DD and I will ride and then when we get back, DD and DH will ride by taking hte rider swap pass and going through the FP line. The one not riding with DD waits with our boys.
