Yes, I am still agonizing over my home resort choice (BCV). And as part of the "healing" process, I am trying to learn more about trading points. This is a complex post, but I appreciate you hanging in there and trying to help me...

Trading is something several members reccomended to allow me to book at the 11 month window at other resorts. I just don't know much about it. I did read posts on the Trading Board, but I found no real help there with these particular questions...

1.) To avoid any "risk," can the two members trading points(using myself and Joe as example here) be on a conference call with Member Services when the transfers take place. I would just feel safer that way.

2.) I am assuming, if trying to avoid "renting" costs, the points being exchanged/transferred/traded would need to be equal, meaning, I send 300 over to Joe and he sends 300 over to me. Correct?

3.) If Joe and I do this transfer, and the two of us have the same Use Year, can we each then opt to bank the transfered points into the next year, if you we are within our banking windows. Or, do we have to use them up before the end of the year, since they were transferred points?

4.) If Joe and I have different Use Years (me April and him September), how long do we have to use the points up? Do I need to use up the points from Joe by August 31st?

5.) Can points from future Use Years and previously banked points be transferred? Let's say I have 100 points from 2002 (banked into 2003) and 100 points from 2003 (current year) and 100 points I want to borrow from 2004 and transfer to Joe. Can he get all those points and does he have to deal with them as if they were his own? Use up 2002 points by end of 2003 Use Year they came from? Etc.

Anyway, just another way I am trying my best to make myself feel better about all this. Too bad I'm not rich. I'd just buy into all the DVC resorts! Thanks for your help.

Not sure on this but I would guess you could do it.

That would probably be up to you and Joe.

I am pretty sure you can't bank transferred points.

I am pretty sure you have it right. I believe transferred points retain both use year and home resort status.

You can't transfer borrowed points. Youc an transfer current points, and not sure on banked.

It might be easier for your to just trade ressies instead of points. Say Joe wants to stay at BCV but only has OKW points. You make a ressie for him at BCV at the 11 month window and he makes a ressie for you at OKW at the 11 month window.
Then you don't have to worry about borrowing points if you have to (unless it's an uneven trade, but then again, you and Joe can work out the details amongst yourselves).

You both retain control over your points, but still have to trust each other over it all. This might be a better option for you.

Yes, you and "Joe" can probably make a conference call to handle a transfer... BUT... you cannot both transfer points at the same time anyway. You can transfer points either into or out of your account in any Use Year but cannot transfer both in and out.

In this case, you will need to transfer Joe's points into your account this Use Year and transfer your points to him next year.
It's often much easier to do this by making a reservation for the other party and then you can transfer any point difference to make things come out even.

Good Luck!

When I transferred in May, they would not let it be done via phone even via a conference call. Had to be done with an email from each party.

Remember you can't transfer in and out in the same use year and contract.
