We have our first trip home in a little more than a week.

We are staying 5 nights, so we will only have trash and towel the one day, possibly more, I may request and pay for an extra.

What is the current consensus on tipping for trash and towel day? We have always stayed at SSR through CRO, so had full mousekeeping and tipped every day, and I just thought of this now. :confused3

I feel like I should leave something, but does the standard $2 per person in the room per day sound right? Or should I just leave a nice tip at the end for whoever has to do the full clean after we check out?

Cripes I sound like an idiot.

No consensus on this issue. Some leave no tips for cleaning or T & T, others do. Those who tip for T & T seem to leave a smaller tip than for a cleaning, about $5 or $10 depending on the size of the room. We always like to tip the mousekeepers, but it is not expected and not universally done.

I agree with the previous poster that you will get the whole gamut of opinions on this one. So here's mine . . . we tip about $10 on trash and towel day. We usually leave a note indicating if there is anything we need . . extra towels, coffee, dishwasher detergent, etc. Once the mousekeeper left us about 14 towels and came back later to say "thank you and God Bless". Other times they have just left what we asked for which is great. Then we leave a $10 tip at the end of our stay (usually 5 nites; 4-6 people). So we pretty much split our tip for the week. :dance3:

they should be tip

this is what i tip trash day i tip 5 $ studio 10 $ 1 bedroom

full cleaning 10 $ studio 20$ 1 bedroom

i have never stayed in more than a 1 bedroom but if i do it will be
15$ trash day 30 $ full cleaning

I always forget what day is T&T, so we left our tip at the end.

What day gets T&T?

Did not know you could request things? Can you request more of those bowls? We used them for cereal and they do not wash very well :lmao:

T&T is on day 4 if you stay 7 days or less. If more than 7 days, full cleaning on day 4 and T&T on day 8. Then the cycle repeats every 4th day. Day 4 is the day after your 3rd night in the villa.
Re: bowls, I assume you mean the paper ones in the studios. Yes, you can get these replenished at any time for free. That also goes for the plastic utensils, paper plates, etc.

Disney considers mousekeeping a non tipped position. Some tip, others do not.

I tip at the end of our stay.

Good tip if room was clean when we got it and for T&T day.

Bad tip if room was not clean when we got it. I don't tip anyone who doesn't do their job. If room was not clean when we enter and then have to wait till it is then no tip at end of stay, sorry.

I will tip T&T day if we get it.

We have never not had a clean room or a missed T&T day. :cool1:

Housekeeping: Disney does not consider housekeeping a tipped position, but we do it anyway. The norm elsewhere is $1/person/night in less expensive hotels and $2/person/night in upscale hotels. For DVC we (two people) generally leave $1/person for trash/towel service; $4 for full cleaning a studio, and $6 for a one bedroom villa. We would probably leave $8 for a two bedroom villa (assuming 4 people) and $12 for a three bedroom villa (assuming 6 people). Tips should be left in your room on a daily basis. Different housekeepers may attend your room each day. Leave your tip so that it is obvious to the housekeeper of its purpose.

I saw an article a few years ago discussing the idea of which hotels have tipped housekeeping and which don't. Nationally it was split almost down the middle with about half of the hotels stating they didn't consider the positions to be tipped and about half that did. My concern for this situation (routinely tipping a non tipped position) is that we can convert them to tipped positions which I suspect would be to the employees detriment.

I only tip when they do something extra but it's not that uncommon that they do so like towel animals or leaving extra towels, etc.

Yup, I read tha article as well. It made clear that the practice of tipping housekeepers was a regional one, focused originally in the Northeast and the West Coast. As hotel chains became national chains, they've retained their legacy practices, so that's why you'll have Hilton paying their housekeepers as if they going to be tipped, while Marriott pays its housekeepers as if they are going to be tipped. Very very confusing for the casual traveler.
