Question about tipping at a DVC resort

Ok I’m sure this is going to be a touchy subject but I’m really baffled here. Normally I would always leave a nice tip for the housekeeping staff at a hotel especially since COVID as a lot of work was lost. However in DVC we are staying 6 nights and went to the desk and they said there is no housekeeping only trash and towel on stays under 7 nights. So what is appropriate to tip when it’s just trash and towel service?

Per the union contract, WDW housekeepers are paid a full wage and are not considered a tipped position. (Servers in restaurants are paid a lower wage, on the assumption that they will receive tips.) Since you will not receive services daily, you could leave a tip when you check out, for the staff who clean your room. You aren’t required to tip, and many DVC members don’t.

Do not feel pressure to tip. If you want leave a tip.

As you outlined housekeeping isn't really taking care of you or doing a turndown service.

You don't have a butler or anything like that either.

Finally Disney forces the daily trash service for safety checks.

Tip if you like or not

Full wage or not, housekeepers don't make much money and do nasty work you couldn't pay me enough to do.

We tip as we did for GF CL--$3/night, usually an additional $20 upon checkout. We've added more for exceptional service a few times. That may seem excessive, but our stays have mostly been right before Thanksgiving. Almost everyone can use some extra cash at the holiday season.

Our next trip is in May, so I'm not sure how much we'll tip. Probably similarly.

It is a touchy subject. Has not come up in a while...

We have always tipped on trash and towel day and when we check out.

I tipped on trash/towel day, cleaning day (longer trip), and check out day. As one of the PPs said, it's a low wage, difficult job that I definitely wouldn't want. I'd rather leave something to acknowledge the person cleaning up after my family. In the grand scheme of an expensive Disney trip, the tip is really a drop in the bucket.

I used to leave tips. Smaller for studios than for 1BR. But with their wage increase and cuts on service, I no longer leave a tip for DVC. We only stay 1 night now too.

Thank you all for the input. We ended up leaving a nice tip. we always tip at a regular hotel Stay because they clean every day but I know these people hard even with just trash and towel so of course we feel they should be tipped. I was just feeling like I didnt need to leave the same tip as I would for getting cleaned and turn down every day. I know they work hard and a great deal of these employees lost 2 years of work and as someone said a nice tip is a drop in the bucket when compared to the whole trip

We always leave tip.
With all the money we spend there.
(Ever increasing)
Leaving few bucks is nothing.

A wise person once told me "if you can afford to take a vacation, you can afford to tip the people who help make that vacation special."

Unfortunately there really is no DVC standard. Given the limited services, you may not even be tipping the person who prepared your room before arrival. I guess the best way to look at it is you're thanking the person who cleans up your mess after you leave. Follow your heart.

This is probably the best answer I have ever heard to this question! I always tip and go above and beyond to cast members who make things special I was just confused as to what to tip as it’s not a full cleaning and never came in contact with those who did. We ended up leaving a very nice tip as we had such a fantastic trip

I usually budget $5 per day. But I do tend to cap it at $25 if we're there for a week.
