Everything about this trip has me feeling stupid.

Okay, so I understand everything in it except for the line about the TSA.

It says that it requires no later than 72 hours prior to departure, all passengers names, titles dates of birth and gender that match the federally issued photo id.

Okay, does that mean a Drivers license? Does that mean that we have to check in with the TSA before we leave? Or does the ticket have to be issued 72 hours prior to departure?

I'm sorry for the stupid questions, but I've not flown in over 20 years and the new TSA requirements are really making me shake my head and very, very confused.

So, if anyone can help I would very greatly appreciate it! :confused3 TIA....

You need to provide that info to the airline (there is an online form) so that they can give it to TSA in order to have a quick background check and get government permission to fly.

Your plane ticket name needs to match a govt issued ID...so, your plane ticket should read the same as your drivers license. So, when you buy your plane ticket, be sure it matches whatever ID you are using.
When you get to the airport, you will go to security screening. There, you will first stop at a podium where a TSA employee will check your boarding pass and compare it to your ID. He/she will then check off the boarding pass so as to show that it has been okay'ed.
That's pretty much it. You then head to the security lines and go through. This is what I found on the TSA official site.......

'ID Requirements for Airport Checkpoints
Airtravel
Identity Matters

Adult passengers (18 and over) are required to show a U.S. federal or state-issued photo ID in order to be allowed to go through the checkpoint and onto their flight.

We understand passengers occasionally arrive at the airport without an ID, due to lost items or inadvertently leaving them at home. Not having an ID, does not necessarily mean a passenger won’t be allowed to fly. If passengers are willing to provide additional information, we have other means of substantiating someone’s identity, like using publicly available databases.

Passengers who are cleared through this process may be subject to additional screening. Passengers whose identity cannot be verified by TSA may not be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint or onto an airplane.

Acceptable IDs include:

U.S. passport
U.S. passport card
DHS "Trusted Traveler" cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
U.S. Military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DOD civilians)
Permanent Resident Card
Border Crossing Card
DHS-designated enhanced driver's license
Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
A Native American Tribal Photo ID
An airline or airport-issued ID (if issued under a TSA-approved security plan)
A foreign government-issued passport
Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) card
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
Non-US/Canadian citizens are not required to carry their passports if they have documents issued by the U.S. government such as Permanent Resident Cards. Those who do not should be carrying their passports while visiting the U.S.

This standardization of the list of accepted documents better aligns TSA with other DHS components, including Customs and Border Protection, and REAL ID benchmarks.'

When you bought your ticket you should have provided this information. Legal name, date of birth, gender. If you bought online, it should have been on the screen. This information is forwarded to TSA and they compare it to their watchlist. All you need to do is provide ID matching the name on the ticket at the airport.
