Question about the first week of January

I will be arriving late on January 1st for a 5 day solo trip. I'm sure there will still be some "hangover" (no pun intended) from New Year's Eve, but can anyone tell me how quickly the crowds will die down that week. I've been at some pretty busy times of year, so I'm hoping for a few walk-ons by Wednesday. Anybody who has been during this time?

Normally, that's about the right assumption.

No one can say for sure, as attendance in even the "slower times" has been UP over the past year or two.

BUT it "guaranteed" that, in comparison to the PREVIOUS week (last week in December), there will be MUCH LOWER attendance.

We flew in on Jan. 1st 2003 and the people didn't start leaving until that Sunday the 5th but the 1st was on a Wed. I would expect that in 2006 since the 2nd is a holiday you should be fine by Wednesday as you thought. Maine

I'm hoping things quiet down by then as well. We're scheduled to arrive in the afternoon on the 2nd with our first day in the parks on the 3rd.

Me too. I'm arriving on the 1st and am staying until the 5th.

We are also arriving the 1st this year....which we did this January too!!
The 1st through the 3rd were very busy last year....then the crowds died down. This year will be interesting....the marathon begins at the end of the week, and maybe more people will be arriving thurs or friday?? I think the 1st was absolutely the most busy of all the days.

I too hope that the crowds die down that first week of january...we will be there from Jan 3rd-9th. I have heard from some people that this time of year is dead, even with the marathon. BUT...I've heard from other people that on certain years the southern schools do not start back up until later, and when that happens, the parks are busier. I also heard that this is one of those years...with many kids not going back until the 9th...so we'll see!
