My friend Goofy4Tink and I are thinking about dining at Jiko in December, and I have a question about the filet mignon at Jiko. Does anyone know what it's seasoned with? Both of us would probably order the filet, and neither of us likes curry, so I want to make sure there isn't curry in it before we make the reservation.

Thanks :)

Anyone out there have any idea??? Curry doesn't do well in my old tummy.

I had the filet not too long ago and it didn't seem to have much in the way of seasoning on it at all. I think the most it might have had would have been salt and pepper. The filet is paired with a mac and cheese and a red wine reduction. Curry would be in direct contrast to those flavors. Its a very savory flavor - rich and delicious. I'm 99% sure there was absolutely no curry at all. I would've detected that because it would've just stood out. I hope that helps.

No, no curry. It's in a red wine reduction of some sort (sorry, not a cook, just an eater). Both my son and daughter in law, very unadventurous eaters, enjoyed this dish a great deal (but they do like red wine).

The appetizers at Jiko are spicy (not hot, just different) and the chicken entree is pretty spicy. Other than that, I haven't had anything at Jiko that had unusual spices (and I would consider curry to be unusual).

Thanks guys....we're really tryiing to do some nicer restaurants this time, so it looks like Jiko is a 'go'....I made an ADR for it.

Thanks so much! You don't want to be around if I taste curry. I get gag reflux like you wouldn't believe. Yuck.

1) Curry on a filet?
2) That is like ketchup on a hot dog!

What is wrong with that? I love ketchup and onions and a bit of mustard on my dog!

OP...the filet with mac and cheese is to die for....we ate there almost a year ago and DH is still talking about it

I'm not a fan of curry, either, Karen. Or at least what I've always associated as "curry", since I'm told there are various types out there.

I've had the filet at Jiko, and I can assure you it's curry-free and pretty darn tasty. Sanaa might be another story. I'd like to go there, but I have to probably stick with the Tandoori chicken.

Thanks everyone. I just can't stand the flavor of curry. If you want to see me gag, give me something with curry and raisins. It won't be pretty.

Curry makes my stomach turn too. So feel pretty comfortable saying there's no curry on that filet.

Curry on a steak...I hope not. I plan on eating at Jiko in the next couple weeks and the thought of curry on a nice steak does not sound appealing.:cool1:

There are plenty of other great things to order off of the menu then filet. In fact if you want a truer African experience I would suggest you skip the filet.

Thanks but we are both pretty unadventurous eaters but really wanted to try some nicer, yet a bit different, restaurants this time around. So, we figure we can venture a bit outside our comfort zones and still get to try someplace new.

Does anyone know if you can get the filet without the red wine sauce? It looks amazing with the mac and cheese just not sure about the red wine sauce. Is the sauce very strong?

Not going to lie, I love ketchup on EVERYTHING... ok well not everything, I can imagine how nasty it would be on something like ice cream but I love to add tons to hot dogs and have been known to eat it with steak.

I'm a pretty picky eater so I ordered mine with the sauce on the side and that's what they brought me! It's very good though but I was unsure about it to begin with... but they'll definitely let you order it separate.

Hey speak for yourself. I just don't like curry and seafood. I'll try other stuff. I just avoid curry and seafood. ;)
