Question about the code watching

I don't go to WDW nearly as often as many of you, but I've never had much problem getting a new code applied to an existing reservation. I generally book my AAA rate, watch this board and mousesavers fairly regularly, and then call, with very little problem. I think I may have had to change resorts once in order to take advantage of a code. I think I've generally called within the first 3 or 4 days of a new code, but never right away.

Is there really a pressing need for people to be hitting the phones at 6:59 a.m.? I live in the west, so if there is, I guess I'm just stuck. But it seems like there's an awful lot of angst here about getting codes. I guess I was always just under the impression that when new codes get released, it's because WDW has excess inventory, and they're hardly going to do it just to sell 5 rooms at any particular resort. Does it really need to be like sleeping out for tickets for a rock concert? If it does, I guess I'll do it -- an AP rate on our upcoming trip would really be a very large money saver, but I guess I've just been assuming that I can check here every know and then and then just call when I know.

I don't know about everyone else, but for me it is more of a planning thing. I've already done everything else. Airline tickets are paid for, Room is reseved, ADRs are done. Strategy plans are in place. About the only thing left is waiting for any AP codes to come out. I check here several times a week to see if they are out yet.

It seems for some it is more of a budget and planning thing. If the codes come out for the time they are going, then they can stay at XXXXX Resort. If they don't come out for that time, then they may stay at a different Resorts. They just want to know what to plan for.

I like to see when the new rates come out but by then I have everything paid for and the new rate will give me some extra spending money. Right now I have a AAA rate but if the AP rate comes out my travel agent will switch me to AP rate if its lower.

I've never had a problem getting a discount with a code and I don't start dialing at 6:59 a.m. In fact, many times we haven't made a ressie until a couple of weeks after the code was released and we've never had a problem. I don't think it's absolutely necessary. You could risk getting your #1 choice resort. Luckily we've never had a problem. Therefore, I just don't stress over it.

I haven't had a problem in the past either....but, we are usually flexible about which resort we can stay and we usually stay at a value or moderate.

I would think that the codes for a specific view at a deluxe might be a little harder to get or may sell out a little quicker. I do remember people posting the day the code was released saying that they could not get the standard view and ended up upgrading to a better view and still saved money.

I think it is more or less a planning issue. Right now....I'm booked for 7 nights at Pop Century starting on 6/3....so, I was able to book the AP rate of $74 per night. We are looking to maybe split the stay with the first 3 nights at POP and then the last 4 nights in a moderate. If an AP rate comes out for the moderate at around $115 or better, we will do it. If not, we will stick with POP.

Some people may be the opposite....booked at a moderate....but, will downgrade if no codes come out. Some may just want to know what their final budget will look like....ie, they may decide to throw in an extra table service meal or two if the discounts are released.....etc. Some may be hoping to upgrade....like....I'm paying $131 with a AAA rate now at a moderate....but, if they release an AP rate of $149 for Wilderness Lodge Standard View....we will try to upgrade.....etc....

So...it's pretty much a planning issue for us. Will we be at POP or will we split? I'm not worried about it...but, I am a little anxious to know what the verdict will be.

Either way....I will be at Disney....so, who cares!!!! :teeth:
