I was wondering how tight of a fit the "car booths" are at Sci Fi? I'm a Pooh Size lady, and hope to lose a lot of weight before my Nov 08 trip, but in worse case scenario, and we decide to try there for a snack or something, how uncomfortable are they for us Pooh size people? I sometimes have a tight fit in certian restaurants, the booths, and I don't want to be embarrassed or miss out.

Thanks,

Jules

The forward facing car booths are somewhat tight, they also have limited table/counter room. They can feel cramped even for average sized folks. There are options available, there are a few regular tables "themed" as cars, though in effect you'll be sitting "sideways" in the car. There are also umbrella themed tables in the back of the restaurant.

We just ate there last week, and with Mom in a wheelchair, we told the receptionist we did NOT want a regular car booth. We had an ADR but checked in 20 minutes early. We were seated immediately, ahead of all those folks waiting for car booths. We were placed at one of the "regular table" type cars, and it worked out great for us.

My wife and I are not large people, and when we and our two school age kids ate at at the Sci-Fi back in August, we found the seating in the front room car booths to be almost close to "cozy."

By the way, if you want a front area car booth without a wait, make an AR for the 11am lunch (ergo, when the place opens) as far in advance as possible.

As to when that is, no it's not 180 or even 90 days. For whatever reason, Disney dining won't take early ARs (e.g. seatings before noon) for the Sci-Fi more about two weeks out from your dining date (the date varies somewhat). You just have to start calling every day and asking when you hit the 3 weeks out or so timetable (I finally got that 11am AR about 2.5 weeks out). When we arrived on the date of our meal about 10:45, there was already a large line of people waiting, but once they started seating, we were the second party taken in and got a great car right up front and middle.

And the kids loved it.

When we were there earlier this month, we ate there and they didn't have any of the actual cars for us to sit in available. But we ended up sitting in a "limo" (what we had to call it to make dd6 stop her fit for not getting a regular car). Anyways these tables are just a rectangle table with 3 chairs on each side and then it has a front and back of the car attached to the ends of the table. So those were pretty cool.

Now we did have the waitress take a pic of us in a regular car and they did seem a little snug, sitting next to dh would have probably been a cozy fit eating in one.

We have an ADR for Sci-Fi for our March trip and are just wondering if our family of 5 will fit in the cars? Our children will surely want to sit there. We don't care if one of us sits alone. :paw:

Depends upon how old and big your children are. Our 8 and 11 year olds (who are the norm for their age in terms of size) fit in one side of the car with no problem, and we probably could have squeezed another kid of about the same age range in if we'd had to. :crowded:

I just made ADR's for Sci-Fi lunch (11:00am) for June '06 w/no problem.
Unless I misinterpreted this post, you can make 11:00 ADR's well in advance.

I know for a fact from lots of discussion on other WDW boards that through at least last summer, anyone calling WDW dining far in advance for Sci-Fi lunch reservations before noon was told nothing was available; you always had to wait until a week or two out for that window to open.

One supposed reason for this was that Disney holds back certain seatings at certain restaurants for "Magical Gathering" family reunion groups. The day of our visit to the Sci-Fi (when we were the second party seated when it opened at 11), I did notice that the other people seated before us were a group of about 12 (and which from the range of ages in it -- grandma to infants -- looked like a textbook "Magical Gathering" party).

Whatever, given all the recent changing/tweaking Disney has been doing to ADR policies, it's possible they just changed things in terms of that no-advance-early-seating-ADRs at the Sci-Fi policy.

With no guarantee that change is permanent.
