Question about testing for a short less than 72h trip

The way I read the direction is that if can use the same test, taken in Canada for entry into the US and return to Canada so long as my trip is under 72h.

Is the 72h prior to return to Canada measured from the time I take the test or the time I get my result?

I’m considering a trip for two nights to get a second Moderna to fix this mixed dose problem. We’d leave 10:15 am on Saturday and return 2:20 pm on Monday. I’m thinking if I get my test done on Friday morning, I’m all set. Am I right? It would be a Oct at Shoppers, I assume.

It’s the time you take your test. If your flight back to Canada isn’t until 2:30pm Sunday then you can’t test until after 2:30pm on the Friday. And if there’s any time zone change you would have to take that into consideration as well.

I think you meant Monday, not Sunday.

Yes. And I had the timing wrong. Test after 2:30 on Friday, travel Saturday, return Monday. I think I’d need a rapid antigen test on the Friday in addition to my pcr so I’d have a definite test result in time for my flight to the US.

Yes sorry. I’m in WDW right now after 3 long nights of HHN and should have just waited till I wasn’t as tired to reply! But yes that’s what I would do — if you can get the antigen and pcr test done at Shoppers at the same time then ur results for the pcr will come in later and can be used.

I’m wondering if I’m absolutely nuts to even consider this….

Isn’t there a way to go to another province who would give you a second dose? Then you would avoid all testing.

If you lie about it. Or possibly Alberta would without too many questions. Provincial health information is not shared between provinces. So you would need to lie and either claim to have no doses yet or say you got one and this is your second. And hope the province doesn't have any other requirements for ID I guess? I'm sure there are ways to do it, but of course some of those provinces also require tests or vaccination status to enter so...

Yeah, I don’t want to lie. I’ll probably just let things fall as they may. We have a trip to nyc booked for May to see a show. Right now, I won’t be able to enter the US. Me, my dh and many other Canadians as you know only too well yourself.

I’m literally sitting here writing a post to ask about the same thing in another thread, but I was considering Alberta because I have Swoop credit .

I wouldn’t plan to lie. AHS asks you right on the booking form what province issued your health card. I planned to call and ask if I went this route.

Just in case, I'm not going to be lying :D Just that from what I've read on other sites, that's how people are getting a third dose from a province they don't live in.
I am actually going to Disney at the end of October and will get a dose of Pfizer at the airport (should all go according to plan). Last minute trip, we're excited even though it's a tonne of hoops, but then I won't have to worry about March Break, or next August.

They do them at the airport ? I haven’t seen my sister or my sweet baby nephew in a year , which means I’ve met him one time in his whole life :sad2:. Maybe I’ll just go for a visit to Tampa and see if I can get one there ? Yes they may not be needed , but I’m not sure I want to miss another year of his life sitting around waiting to find out if I can go or not when there’s no reason for it. Even if they started giving them out the next week here I still would have gone to see him.:)

Orlando airport currently offers Pfizer, Thursday to Monday, noon to 6. No appointment necessary. It's on their website. Otherwise, I'd go to one of the Walgreens or CVS as they also offer them and there are more than a few in Orlando :) Likely Tampa as well. I booked my flight there to arrive at 1pm so I could stop and get the shot when we arrive. Fingers crossed I'll have no fever/reaction! I didn't with my Pfizer so I hope that continues. I'll have advil/etc just in case. And BeeperMD for testing before returning, they are free and will come to the hotel, I've got that booked already for Thursday afternoon, return flight is Sunday morning. I really hope I did that math right. I used an online calculator so I think it's ok. As a bonus for me, the Ottawa airport currently has $1 a day for their parking, book by end of October to trips to the end of December. So parking will be $7 and beats my usual Uber to/from the airport (or usual $78 parking for the week).

The wondering about what will happen is part of why we are going and I'm doing this, even my kiddo was on board and he hates flying, but he loves the vacations. So when he knew it meant our March break cruises would be go aheads for sure, he was on board. Now he's excited to go. Though he was upset only Blizzard Beach is open, he prefers Typhoon Lagoon, so we won't be adding the waterparks, and we are not going to park hop, I used AM to get one ticket and will pay for the other one. I booked us at POP, so we can take the skyliner (it wasn't open when we went in 2019) and hopefully have a great time. Any way.... expensive way to get a vaccine I guess? But it's been well over two years since our last vacation, and we want to travel.

Please let me know what you find out. I am seriously considering the same thing if it turns out we need another shot. Our trip is Dec. 1 and I'm the only one in our group with an AZ/Moderna. The rest of the party (my kids and grandkids) all are fine.

Ok I will look into Monday and report back. I still don’t know what we will do but it’s good to get all the info I can .

Have you looked into getting a second Moderna somewhere in Canada? :scratchin I wonder if you could get it here in Alberta - 2nd shots of Pfizer or Moderna are freely available to mixed-vaxers for travel purposes.

I was wondering that too. Same in Quebec. The people I knew who were mixed, were actually called in for their 3rd to fix it. We are also doing vaccines without a medical card, so I can’t see it being an im possibility?

Ontario says no third shot for travel. I’ll have to check on the logistics for Alberta. I know in Quebec, they take down addresses. I’m also concerned about screwing up my records with the government.
