Question about Target and coupons

Target usually has advertised sales where you can "buy 3 of these items receive $5 gift card" and they are currently running a sale for which I have coupons. I wanted to know if this was allowed: I have a b1g1 free coupon, plus $1 off coupon, all for the same item. So would that be considered buying the three items therefore getting the giftcard? Or would the b1g1 free not be considered as two items?? Please help! Thanks!

The B1G1 is considered to be two items.

It will depend on how the coupon is coded as to how it rings up. In one type of coding, you are paying cash for the first one and paying for the second one with a coupon (in couponing terms, the coupon "attaches" to the second item). In the other type of coding, you are paying half price for each item (in couponing terms, the coupon "attaches" to both items).
