Question about taking medication (pills) in carryon baggage...

I know you have to have liquid meds in a 3.4 oz bottle in a quart bag, but my husband takes many medications (heart issues) in pill form and uses one of the 7 day snap top pill dispensers that is about 8 inches long and 1 inch wide. It will not fit in a quart zip lock bag. Does anyone know if he can take it on board with him or will he have to take all 10 bottles of meds put in several bags? Sure will be much easier if he can take his 7 day box.

It's not an issue at all. He can carry his pills in whatever way works best for him.

Do you know if he has to tell them at checkin that he has them? Seems like I read somewhere you have to inform security.

My DH flies all the time and carries medication with him. He never mentions it.

If someone is flying with liquid medication, it will probably save time and hassle to mention it. No experience with that personally. We do tell the TSA agents about our son's food and beverages. They always hand inspect his small cooler....he's Type I juvenile diabetic.

Liquid medicication in quantities over 3.4 oz must be declared but if it isn't liquid it's fine. You can just leave the pills in your carry on.

I have never had any problems having pills in my carry-on. It is just the liquids that you need to declare to the TSA agent.

I fly all the time and use the 7 day dispenser. The only time I took the bottles was when I flew international and they never looked at them.

Yes - but that you will have to tell the TSA about.

You can take pills in any amount through the checkpoint. If you have medication that is liquid, you can also exceed the 3.4 ounce limits - just tell the security officer you have medically necessary liquids to declare. You can also take a gel icepak through to keep medications cool. Again, tell the officer. In addition to being a WDW lover, I work at TSA - happy to help with any questions you might have.
