Question about stroller at airport

When we go this spring we are planning on bringing our own stroller with us. We want to have it in the airport with us so we plan to gate check it, however we don't have a non-stop flight, we have to change planes in Atlanta and I know that that airport is big and was wondering if we will have our stroller between flights. Do we get to gate check it twice(once for each flight) or just once and we will get it in Orlando. Hope this makes sense. Thanks in Advance!

Go ahead and gate check it but make sure the gate agent at your home airport knows you will need it in Atlanta before you change planes -- he or she will make sure it gets tagged that way (as it probably would be, anyway).

The only reason I'd advise you against this is if your connecting flight time is VERY tight -- in that case, you might not have enough time to wait around in case the rampers take their good ol' time getting your stroller to you up in the jetway.

I know it was waiting for us at our connecting airport the last time we flew, so I'm pretty confident you'll have it in Atlanta (which you will need it there) but I'm not sure whether we re-checked it there or if it was already "checked" all the way to our final destination. Just talk to the employee at the gate to verify what to do.

When you gate check it the first time you can choose whether or not you want to have it for your connecting flight. The gate agent who fills out the tag for you should ask, but if not I would just verify with them that it's marked for both stops or just the end destination, whichever you prefer. Like CleveRocks said if you have a tight layover time (for atlanta, which is a huge airport, 45mins is tight) then you might want to push it right through. If you've got some time to kill while there and you'll be carrying around a carseat as well, then you'll definitely want the stroller with you. hth.

Thank you both so much! My layover is a little over an hour so we should be good! THis will certainly make it easier since our girls are 3 and 18 months! Thanks again!

:thumbsup2 Yes! We are huge fans of gate checking!! You have to get a tag for it(usually at the counter) and it is there when you get off the plane. We have even had to make mad dashes for connecting flights and our stroller only ever helped!! The pain of gate checking is having to empty the stroller at security...better safe than sorry though!

We just flew with our 1 and 3 year olds and had to change planes at O'Hare. Other than coming through Security (where we just had to fold our stroller up and put it through the x-ray), it was actually helpful to be able to push the little one and hang our carry-ons on the back. We gate checked it and didn't take the baby out until we were at the end of the jetway about to get on the plane. There is always such a back up on the jetway that we had plenty of time to collapse the stroller and didn't hold anyone up. At the other end, the stroller was always ready to go. By the time they got first class off, the baggage handlers had brought it up.

We really needed it as we had to make a TIGHT (20 minutes acrossed three terminals at O'Hare) connection. Thank goodness for my McClaren. We popped the three year old and all of our stuff in there and ran! DH carried the one year old under his arm like a football! We made it...out of breath..but we made it- stroller and all!
