Question about Stay and Scream at IOA

Hey guys, this may be a dumb question but I've gotten different impressions from reading the boards. If I'm doing IOA during the day and then doing Stay and Scream, can I get to the holding area by walking THROUGH IOA or do I have to leave IOA go through the main entrance to Universal? I think the former but thought I'd ask the experts.

They have a walk through area so you don't have to go out and then come back into the park.

You can hang out at Finnegan's but when you're in the S & S area, you get into NOES right away and then you can do Psychoscareapy before the crowds arrive. Did you do any houses before the gates opened?
