Question about split stay

I have a friend that's considering doing a split stay and going to both Tampa and Disney.

Is this possible or any other recommendations?

1. Fly into Orlando get a rental car and go to Tampa for a few days
2. Drive back to MCO and then take the Magical Express to their resort and then back to MCO?

Why not fly into Tampa, rent a Alamo car, stay in Tampa a few days then drive to Disney and turn car in at Alamo location on site and stay at Disney, then take DME back to MCO to fly home. Alamo will not charge a one way fee.

YOu can fly on SWA into to TPA and back home via MCO
