Question about specialty cruise times

I read the thread with all of the info about these cruises but I have a question. The thread says to ask for the 8pm specialty cruise. If the cruise lasts 45 minutes (as the thread states) and Illuminations is at 9pm how can you even get a chance to see it? Aren't you back at the dock before Illuminations even begins? And how about the Wishes cruises? If wishes is at say 10pm on a certain night how does an 8:00 cruise help you? Sorry for all of the questions but my 90 day mark is approaching within the next few weeks and I just want to know exactly what to tell the CM I want so that I don't waste any time. When I called I asked for a fireworks cruise for Iluminations. We are scheduled to leave at 8:30pm from YC. This is our second one, the first one also left at 8:30. You will love it!

When I called for our Wishes cruise I told the CM I wanted to book a specialty cruise to see Wishes on this date. He pulled up the park schedule and told me what time Wishes was scheduled and then booked our cruise accordingly.
