Question about sofa-bed

We have cruised on DCL twice before (just the 2 of us) and have 2 more cruises booked already. On one cruise, we may have an third person who would use the sofa that converts to bed ( a child actually -- 5 years old). We know what the sofa is like, but how does it open up? Does the back come down? Is it comfortable? Does it block access to the verandah when it is open? Thanks for your help.

The back folds down to reveal the bed. It does not block the verandah and it is fine for a child. If you room has a ceiling pull down bed, you could request it be pulled down for the child. My kids loved sleeping up there and took turns each night.

It appeared that the sofa back flipped over on top of the sofa seat and created the bed. It was comfortable and my 4 yo DD loved it. While open, it did not interfere with the veranda access.

Hi,
I slept on the sofa bed on the March 6th cruise, and I thought it was great! Not sure how they do it, but the cushions on the back of the couch were not there when it was a bed, so there was just the wall. Maybe they use the back cushions as part of the bed. We had a secret porthole room, so I don't know about the verandah. I slept with my feet next to the outside wall and porthole, so when I woke up I had a great view! I sure am missing it this week! Hope this helps!

The back of the sofa actually has a mattress built into it. They pull the back of the sofa forward so it rests on top of the regular sofa cushions. It is no larger than the regular sofa when it is in its bed form.

When we cruised DS stayed in my parents' room. Instead of having the sofa made into a bed we had our Stateroom Hostess pull down the top bunk. DS loved sleeping up there and it left the sofa accessible for my parents to use as seating.

Our DS5 slept comfortably every night on this bed. They are quite comfortable as I had to try it out first before DS5 would lay down there. - Mike

The sofa bed is quite comfortable (the last time I slept on it, I was 15 so I'm sure your the child will be more than comfortable). Ironically enough, that sofa bed is a heck of a lot more comfortable than the bed here in residence (or should I say block of wood *ahem*)

Anyways, Michelemouse brought up a really good point. On our last couple of cruises, we have been in a stateroom with a pull down bunk bed (from the ceiling) and I always chose that bed if it's available. This way, the couch is left free for watching tv etc...

Thanks for all the help. Now I know why the sofa looks so weird with the back so much taller than the cushions are wide. The pictures are great, Gayl! And Michele -- hope to see you on the 10/2 Antigua cruise. Just 2 of us then -- we won't need the sofa bed until 2005.

The next time I go cruising, If there is the pull down bunk, I'm going to ask the room steward to pull it down on Thursday, then put the suitcases up there to start packing! Then they will be out of the way!

Hi MissDisneyTeach,

Don't you wish we were back at the airport today heading back to Orlando? It seems like we were just dreaming instead of being on the ship!

About the couch, I actually had to sleep on it as my 16 year old son's could not fit on it with his big self! I found the couch to be more comfortable than the bed which I only got to sleep on one night. Great idea about using it the pull down bed for storage.

I want to go back!!!!!

Hey jeanniec - I was going to ask this same question, because that's where Haley is going to sleep. Last year she slept in a pack 'n play so I didn't have to wonder about the couch (that is why I didn't check it out then).

I still can't believe we were on the Disney Magic! I just got my pictures back and it does seem like a dream! I am ready to go back! I wanted to rebook, but thought I better pay this one off, before I plan for another one! I even logged on to dcljobs.com to see about a job. Just wishing! Who would teach my 2nd graders and pay my house payment for me?

Scrappy520- Passporter book shows that rm 2088 sleeps 3 so I don't think so. ...Mark
