This trip includes me, DH, DD 4, DS 1, and my Mother. When it comes to rides with "clamshell" seating like Haunted Mansion, and the new Mermaid ride is it going to be possible for our seating arrangement to be one adult with a child, and the other two adults with remaining child between them? Would hate for one adult to have to go on alone.

The kids are young, one would fit with 2 adults.

Definitely. My experience is with the Haunted Mansion. If kids are involved, two adults can fit. However, three adults do not fit - unless they are the size of a small child.

My DH and I have always ridden with our children, but we had a chance to go just as adults, and took my mother with us. My mom and I got in the HM buggy first, and then my DH jumped in. We weren't expecting him, and believe me, the three of us did not fit. No time for him to jump back off though. We were squished for the entire ride, and laughed the entire way through - we could hardly breath. It was hilarious!:rotfl2:

HM, Nemo and SE will work that way. TSM and Buzz a bit trickier since there are only two shooters per seat.

True, but since they have a 1-year-old, he/she could always go on a lap on those rides. I've taken a rather chunky 13-month-old on Buzz before with no problems.

It depends on the size of the people in question really. If anyone refers to themselves as the board favorite (and gag-worthy) "Pooh sized" it would be hard. If everyone is thin it wouldn't be a problem. I can get into the Haunted Mansion car with both of my brothers and not feel cramped and we are all in our 30's.

NO It REALLY depends on the CM.

Some CM's will not allow three people to sit in one car on an attraction like HM (the nemo ride, PP, etc) (i.e. two adults and one small child), even if everyone is fairly small!

Then again, I don't see what the big deal is...

If you are an adult asked to ride in your own cart, you simply ride in the next cart. You'll only be about ten feet apart max, on ANY attraction for the total duration of the ride. The attraction is only a few minutes long, and you'll be able to see eachother again as soon as the ride is over.

If you have a child who is a little scared, then maybe it will pay to decide ahead of time which adult is the priority to ride with the child. you can also load the single riding adult between the other cars.

Otherwise, it's REALLY not worth any extra consideration. Really. I'm not trying to be snarky or unsympathetic, I just don't see that this would be an issue. On most attractions, you can SEE the cars around you for much of the ride, and most rides are under 5 minutes long.

UNLESS - the adult who has to ride alone is disabled. If that's the case, then Disney has ways of helping. Post some specifics, and we can better heklp you.

I've never seen a CM say that 3 couldn't ride in a car unless it was something with height restrictions and a restraint system that actually does something (i.e., not a mere decoration like the new lap bars on Splash). I guess it could happen if someone in the group was heavy, but if you're all thin, you have nothing to worry about. Of course, riding by yourself isn't really something to worry about, either, but it just isn't going to happen.

I've ridden HM and Nemo with 2 adults (not small) and a tall 5 year old. No problem. The CMs, in my experience, usually say 2 or 3 to a car when loading. Even on Peter Pan (which freaks me out, because those "boats" are pretty small and they are up in the air - but I guess it can be done...)

we sit 3 to a ride on HM all the time... Myself and my 2 daughters.. ( 14 & 12). its a little snug, but no one will ride alone.

As for PP, the 3 kids go together on that one. :)

My hubby (who is broad), my DD7, and myself rode all together in HM and and Peter Pan. We were a bit squished but it wasn't uncomfortable. We could have fit in the new LM ride, but hubby chose to ride alone. On Winnie the pooh my daughter sat in the front seat of the car, hubby and I sat in the back. I am not sure we could have fit all three of us in one seat.

Thanks for all replies! It's not a huge issue if an adult has to go it alone, it's just so much more enjoyable to enjoy it together, beside one another. You have eased my concerns! We will have a magical time! :-)

The first time we went as a family, it was me, Dh, and our daughter was 2 at the time. We rode every ride (that she could ride) together as a family.

oh, and not that you asked, but just thought I would add (since there are 5 in your party) ~ we are now a family of 5 and I was very surprised by some of the rides that CMS would not let us ride on together, even though our youngest was 13 months at the time of our trip. We all rode together on IASW and POTC. We could have easily fit on one row for Maelstrom but the CM made us split up on 2 rows. There was another ride where we had to split too, but I can't remember which one.

Yes, I agree here. If you are on the "fluffier" side as my dd calls it, it may not work, but dh and I could fit another slender person with us on the Haunted Mansion ride.
