We fly Delta tomorrow morning. We got boarding passes 24 hrs in advance on line because the flight was totally booked when we went to bed. A sm airport 60 miles from ours had to cancel all flights because of an airport equipment problem. It looks like they are using a bigger plane for our flight into Detroit, but still only 2 seats on each side. When they reassigned the seats, they put us in different isles. Now, this is after doing the same thing earlier on our Detroit to Orlando flight, canceling our flight from Detroit to Marquette altogether so we had to switch to a morning flight with a bus time of 5am and a 4.5 hr layover in Detroit. I was afraid we might get bumped if I didn't get boarding passes, but woul really like to sit with DH at least part of the trip. We used FF miles so we're booked through Travelocity. Can we call travelocity and get our seats changed or get it done at the airport when we arrive? I'm just Leary of loosing our seats. Sorry this is so long, had to vent. Delta is wearing on my last nerve this year. Thanks.

Why did you have to book through Travelocity if you were using Delta FF miles? Just curious.

Having a boarding pass or not has nothing to do with being bumped. Besides, involuntary bumps are pretty rare.

All you need to do is go to Delta's web site, pull up your reservation, and change seats yourself.

I agree, you should be able to go online and callup your reservation and see if there are any seats to change to. Or you can call Delta - 800-221-1212.

We used US Bank Flex perk miles to purchase Delta tickets.

Check with the gate agent tomorrow. Maybe they can make a switch. Or ask the person sitting next to you or your husband if they would change seats so you can sit together. I was asked by someone once if I would change seats with her so she could sit next to her girlfriend. I had no problem with that at all.

If you do decide to ask someone once you board the plane, be polite. If one of you has a seat in the back of the plane, and one forward, ask if the person in the back would be willing to move forward. If you're right and the seats are 2x2, I'd actually be surprised if someone isn't willing to switch.

That part is definitely not true. All things being equal (ie, neither party is a status member and both have the cheap tickets), the person who already has a boarding pass will get on the plane and the person who doesn't have a boarding pass will be the one bumped. Now you're right that involuntary bumps are rare, but having a boarding pass in your hand is always one step ahead.

I was on a flight once where they had to load extra fuel at the last minute because of weather that we would have to fly around. To compensate for weight, 2 people had to get off. They asked for volunteers, no one volunteered. The gate agent called the last two people who checked in.

I'm sorry I did not respond to this earlier, as you are probably already at the airport. However, even if you booked through another site, you *can* use your six-character confirmation to pull your flights up on delta.com. From there, you should be able to move to other open seats, and re-print your boarding passes either at home or the airport.

I've been known to move seats as late as one hour before takeoff, using the delta app in the waiting area.

No. I think you're confusing having a boarding pass with being checked in for the flight. Two different things. It's being checked in which is important.

That's okay; OP was informed she could do this yesterday.

On Delta, having a boarding pass with a seat number on it doesn't really mean anything. 4 or 5 times when I handed my boarding pass to the gate agent, a little slip pops out with a new seat number. Every time, not a better seat. I was traveling for work so I guess I was an easy target to move.

Question......what happens if I'm flying with carry on only. I check in, online, get my vp, and go directly to security. Do you still say I'm not officially checked in?

I have often checked in and not printed my boarding pass until later. So while you can check in without getting a boarding pass, you cannot get a boarding pass without being checked in.

Soooo, if I check in at the 24 hr mark, for, say JB, and I have no checked bags, and I print out my BP (which I normally do if I don't have checked bags), I am now checked in. I get to the airport, walk right to security, and then to the gate. My printed out BP is scanned and onto the plane.
So, long story short, I don't have to go to the bag check line in order to be considered 'checked in'. So, even if you have checked bags, and you have done an online check in, you are now 'checked in'.

Yes, if you check in online, you are checked in. You don't need to print a boarding pass. In fact, many people never actually print a pass; they use mobile boarding passes.

And that was my issue. If you have a boarding pass, you've checked in. Doesn't make a difference if I'm holding a print out, or if it's on my phone. You can't get any kind of boarding pass until you're checked in. You don't need to be standing at the airport in order to check in...no checked bags, do online check in and you're done.

OFF topic, but I think your sig needs a slight correction (unless your planning a future stay in 90 years or so).
