question about room assignment..birthday surprise ??

Okay....
I have a question....maybe someone has had an experience with this and can offer some help or suggestions.

We are celebrating both Ds's birthdays this trip in July as their b-days are 10 days apart. I have been reading on the rest. board about baloons / birthday cakes being in the room at check -in and would love do do this as a surprise to my boys.

question: How does this workout if the rooms really aren't assigned until check-in ?? Has anyone done this while staying DVC and had a good experience?? I was also wondering...maybe those folks who were able to do this weren't DVC...are the regular rooms pre-assigned ?? I don't know...just a few questions, one of you wonderful folks will be able to help with some ideas .

regular rooms are pre assigned - but can be changed.

I would wait and have the ballons/gift delivery after 5 pm - you can be sure then you will have a room.

Or you could have the surprise delivered in the middle of your trip - while you are out enjoying a park or the pool, perhaps.

In November, my DH's birthday basket was given to me at check-in. We were at the VWL.

We told MS when making a reservation that it was DD's 3rd bday and again at check in to the CM. She asked me what her favorite character was and she got a minnie autographed birthday card and balloons delivered to our room when we were gone....FREE!!! She loved her special surprise!
