Question about resort security

I will be a single mom traveling with a 5 year old. I am somewhat concerned about arriving back to the resort at night and walking to our room (we are staying at the new AOA in the LM section which looks like a LONG walk from the bus stops). Do the resorts have good security / lighting?

I want her to see the fireworks, but not sure if it will be safe to come back so late?

We are going in mid-November, so not sure what the crowds will be like.

I have never felt unsafe at any of the Disney resorts even when late at night without my spouse.

While you should always be vigilant, no matter where you are or what time it is, Disney is one of the safest places in the world. I have been going to WDW for over 25 years and have been staying and resorts and arriving back at them at all hours of the night after fireworks, shows, and events, and have never felt scared or worried that something could happen.

Now, I've never stayed at AoA, but all the resorts are well lit and have specified walking trails to get you from the bus stops to the rooms.

I would also bet that if you were that worried, you could stop at the front desk and ask if it was possible for a CM to escort you back to your room.

But I wouldn't worry, it'll be more than safe. And, you won't be the only person making that walk back to the rooms at that hour of the night. You'll be with a whole herd of people doing the exact same thing as you.

Speaking as a single mom who travels a lot, both to WDW and beyond, with my DS, don't worry about it overmuch, but do be careful, stay alert, and don't hesitate to ask for help if you don't feel comfortable. The Mouse will be happy to give you a ride or lend someone to walk you to your room if something just feels "off."

I'm a single mom too. I've never felt unsafe when returning late at night to the resort. As PP have mentioned, be vigilant and aware of your surroundings, but there's always so many people returning after the fireworks that it's not like you are alone.

My husband and I were just talking about this the other night. There is no time when you shouldn't be aware of your surroundings BUT, I would put Disney World down at the lower end of the scale of "alertness". On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being "walking in a high risk area", I'd have Disney World at about .5.

They are extremely well light and there are lots of people arround. I would not feel afraid traveling around with my children alone.

I haven't been there but it looks like you could walk past the pool from the bus stop to your room. People will likely be hanging outside, possibly swimming depending on the temperature.

For at least an hour after the fireworks are over, there are throngs of folks going to the buses and returning to their resorts. You're more likely to be annoyed by all the people rather than being nervous about being alone.

Based upon my experiences at WDW, I think you'll be fine. I have never felt unsafe when there. The resorts I have stayed at (AsMo, Pop) were well lit.

I'm a single mom and have been making trips with my girls since they were 7 and 10 (now 18 and 21). To be quite honest, WDW became our only real place to vacation years and years ago. I feel totally safe at all times when I'm onsite. I have never worried about our safety when staying at a Disney resort. Heck, one time our golf cart broke down after a late night at Magic Kingdom and we ended up having to push it back to the cabin. Never felt uneasy even doing that. Obviously, being aware of your surroundings is important, but safety and Disney kind of go hand in hand.

Another chimig in to say you should be safe and fine.
I have going to WDW annualy with my daughter since she was 5 in 1995.
It has always been just the 2 of us, and we have always felt safe and fine.
Now I go alone, and honestly, it is about the only place I feel safe to travel alone without worrying or thinking twice about it.

Like others have stated, "Be aware of your surroundings." Disney is no different than anywhere else, but would be on the lower end of frequency. There is a history of an array of personal and property offenses on property, so go with your gut feelings. Dark or isolated areas, odd ,suspicious or wild behaving individuals/groups should be a time to assess your surroundings or your route of travel.

There's always many people returning to the resort from the busses at park closing. And the paths are well lit. there is security.

I go to WDW 4-6 times a year and most of those trips are solo trips (my husband is not as big a WDW fan as I am and will only go once or maybe twice a year). I've never felt unsafe at WDW. I've stayed solo at Pop, AS Sports, AS Music, POFQ, CBR, CSR, AKL, BW, and YC. As others have said, just be aware of your surroundings. People are always around.

Have never seen or heard of any problems, and we have been going since the MK opened, back when There have been petty thefts, but not a danger to people themselves that I know of. As pp's say, always be aware of your surroundings, even locally, or should I say, ESPECIALLY locally

There is a lot of public information readily available. Try spotcrime.com and move the map marker across the property to get the area crimes to display.

I am Going on my first solo trip to disney with my DD, 11. I chose disney because I felt very safe there.
So you see many of us travel solo with our children.
But I do agree no matter where you are you need to be aware of your surroundings.

All Resorts are very well lit. I haven't had any concerns about security at disney. I wish I could say that about other theme parks.

As others have said....you should always be aware of your surroundings, even at WDW. I have made several mother/daughter trips. I have also traveled by myself. I have never felt unsafe. Well..there was that one time I got off the bus, from MK, at the BC and walked back to BW at 2am. I kept hearing rustling in the bushes!! Those bunnies sure are terrifying!!!
I have also walked home to BW from DHS at 2am, along the pathway that runs beside the canal. Spooky? Sure. But safe?? Absolutely. Just be aware.

I would have absolutely no issue being on a bus going back to a resort late at night..not even with a young child. There will be plenty of others on that bus..and when you get to your resort, you'll also have company. Not a problem.
