Question about reservation and points needed

Hi Everyone. I know someone will be able to answer these questions for me. The family is looking into getting a GV in December 2005 at SSR (our home resort). We are looking to stay a total of about 10 nights (check in 12/4-check out 12/14) that would = about 706pts. Our use year is February. We currently have 300pts banked.

So questions:
*I should call 1/14/05 to make the reservation correct?

*Now since my use year is February, will my next 300 pts (2005) not be available until then?? I will need all my 2005 pts and some of my 2006 pts for this reservation, how will this work???

At the time you make the reservation, MS will use all of your banked 2004 points first (300), then your 2005 points (total now 600) and borrow 106 of your 2006 points (total now 706). All of it can be done when you call on January 14. Or you can call day by day or a couple of times over the course of two weeks. Have fun planning.

Hmmm, can you borrow points into your Feb 2005 yu prior to the beginning of that YU?...I don't think so, I'm not sure. You'll still be within your 11 month priority window, but I don't think you'll be able to book your complete reservation until Feb 1, 2005, since you'll need to borrow points from Feb 2006.

I know someone will correct me if I'm wrong. But MS wouldn't let me BANK from a YU until that YU began, even though I had all my ressie made that I needed for that YU.

In other words, I can't BANK points from my June 2004 YU, into my June 2005 YU, until June 1, 2004.

When you make the reservation on 1/14/05 just be sure to tell the MS you want to use all your banked points plus the points you have for 2005 and just ask her to borrow for you the points you will need for the reservation. This all can be done when you make the reservation, you do not have to wait. You can borrow up to one years worth of points. the reason I am suggestingthat yu remind the MS of the banked points is just to double check her, it should be automatic, but you never know when you may get a new MS or someone that is not with it. It looks like you will have to borrow 106 points from 2006 that would leave you with enough points to enjoy another vacation at a smaller unit for 2006 also. If you are not sure of anything MS is there to help you as is your guide.

Chuck S, The whole reservation can be made on January 14. Read my first post. You are correct though that you wouldn't be able to bank until your use year begins.

OK, I'm not questioning whether she is within her BOOKING window, but when does your BORROWING window start? Can MS access Feb1, 2006 points PRIOR to the physical date of Feb1, 2005?

In other words, what would keep me then from calling now and BORROWING all my 2040 points into 2039?

You can't because you are not in the 11 month booking window.

She could borrow February 2006 points as early as March of 2004 for a reservation in February of 2005. At any one time only up to 300% of your points can be available. Under the December scenario, she would use about 235%.

It just seems odd you can take points OUT of a use year before you can put points INTO a use year

Hey HBC,

I read this post and I am still confused, we will be making a reservation in November 2004 for October 2005. I will bank 2004 points and use 2005 points but need to borrow 68 points for 2006. Can I do this in November 2004. My use year is August

Yes you can do the whole reservation when you make the call in November of 04 for October of 05. October 05 is in the 2005 use year so you would be able to borrow from the next use year (October 06) to make a reservation.

Make sure you bank your points and make sure they use those first when making the reservation.

Well, if you couldn't borrow points at the 11 month window, it would make borrowing points almost useless for many members. On the other hand, there's no real need to bank points before the use year starts.

A question -- many people have told the OP that it's OK to book the GV all at once, 11 months from check-out date. With a GV, isn't it a lot safer to book day-by-day? The GVs may be all booked up for the start of the OP's trip, by 11 months from check-out date.
