question about resale vs direct

We are getting to the point where 2042 resorts make sense if (a) you plan to hold it to expiration and (b) the cost pencils out as "acceptable" to you.

For me, a direct purchase doesn't pencil out, but a resale purchase might. True, you won't be using those points at Riviera, but the Boardwalk point chart is much more forgiving, and you are walking distance to the Skyliner so you can visit it anytime you like.

I agree. I always forget also that I could rent BW points and use the cash to rent at Riviera. We just don’t want more then 100 points for now and like you said BW has a very forgiving point chart.

I’m really torn about this. I just closed on a 50 pt. BWV resale contract and I want to add 50 more and I’m thinking direct. I don’t want to be totally shut out from future resorts and Riviera but BWV is our favorite. But are the 2042’s a really bad direct decision? I probably should start a new thread on this.

You may want to look at the point charts for RIV before making a decision. 50 points won’t go very far there. My guess is point charts will only get more expensive with new resorts.

I did and you can get maybe 2 nights for 50 points. Not a lot but a split stay every other year would be fine with me.

I am thinking about buying a small contract with a later expiration date. I own 150 points at a 2042 resort and have a blue card. I don’t see myself always wanting to have a large contract. I also own a small VGC contract I bought resale. If I were to buy 40-50 points that I can continue to use after 2042, in addition to the VGC contract. Is there any reason to buy direct vs. resale. It would be marginally cheaper to buy resale but not thousands of dollars. When 2042 rolls around, I will lose blue card rights, even if I buy these other points direct? I don’t really care that much about it but curious as I am weighing options.
do you have a specific resort in mind to buy a small direct contract? The answer to your question really depends on how you want to use your points. It sounds to me you are wanting direct points so that you can stay at Riviera and future resorts? Is a home resort a priority for you? Or are you looking for SAP? If it's the latter, I'd maybe recommend VGF since they have the lowest dues. But if it's the former, it's really hard to justify buying a small direct contract because the points charts are so high at the current actively selling resorts and a 40 point contract won't get you many nights. If maintaining blue-card perks is your priority, then buying something below 150 points doesn't make sense, unless you're planning to slowly build on it with future direct small contract purchases.
