Question about renting/transferring points...

Say I "rent" 100 SSR points to be transferred into my account. I can use those 100 points to book at room at ANY resort at the 7 month window, right?

Remember that you are not renting points. You are transferring points or renting a reservation. They retain their home resort and use year, including expiration. But you can bank them after you get them and at 7 months can use them anyway you want.
