Question about renting points and cancellation policy

I am renting points for May and I was wondering what the cancellation policy is for the DVC member. I guess what I want to know is, am I safe from this member possibly cancelling on me? Not that I would expect them to, but I am new to this and DH is worried that we will arrive and find out that we have no reservation.

I would appreciate any info about this matter!

Thanks

You will have to ask the person you are renting from about his/her cancellation policy - terms vary between members. Most consider renting a "final transaction", but will allow the renter to reschedule (subject to the expiration dates of the points and the normal reservation rules).

Renting does require trust on both sides of the transaction. The member always retains control of the reservation. MS will not deal with anyone who is not a member other than to confirm that a reservation does exist. If you are dealing with an unscrupulous person (I doubt it), he/she could certainly take your money and cancel the reservation on you. It's possible, just not very likely.

If it makes you feel better, call the number for MS (it's on your confirmation letter) and ask them to verify that there is a reservation in your name for your dates. You could call the resort directly just before you leave and ask them the same thing.

Try not to worry or let your DH worry - I'm sure everything will go just fine and you will have a wondrful time.

Best wishes -

Trust is the main issue here , yes he could cancel on you but most renters on the board are honest and will give you a fair shake, as long as your fair to him paid up front I don't see any problem :smooth:

If a member cancels more than 31 days out the points are returned to the current UY. If we cancel less than 31 days out, the points go into Holding and then they have some book resrictions on them.

So I suppose if you check on the reservation at 30 days out, there is a good chance if you were going to get burned, it woul dhave all ready happened.

I think your question is based on trust
the member should have supplied you with a confirmation sheet with YOUR name the name of the resort and the dates and size of unit. if he or he has not make sure they fax this infomation to you Immediately.
you can check on the reservation if he has not supplied this as long as you have his name and adress
PM me if you do not have the 1-800 number to call
all this information will be on the sheet though
